I've tried both back-to-back, and the Vredestein's are in a different league to the Toyos. MUCH better.

I have the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's on WR1 after using Pirelli Rosso's for years. The Sessanta's grip ok but they do seem to transmit road surface vibrations a lot more than the Rosso's, also they needed a lot more weights to balance up. I had long chat with Vredestein tech advisor who said should take no more than 100gms to balance whereas mine needed 150gms. Anyone else noticed this at all?

Will be your wheels needing a refurb by the sounds if it.
I've had two entire sets and never had that issue.
Also never noticed excess vibration or noise, I found Goodyears and Hankooks noisier

Had wheels refurbed and tyres fitted by same guy. I did wonder if wheels could be out of balance due to the refurb. Had wheels and tyres rebalanced twice, last time by specialists which helped a little. The vibration I feel in the car it related to the road surface.

The wheels should have been balanced (and hence weighted) when they came back from refurb mate. If not suggest you need to speak to the guy who did em.
Mags got mine refurbed and fitted my Hankooks and I haven't had any issues with em.

I'd suggest going back to who did them and get them to fix it. Tyres wouldn't cause that on their own.

I've just put a set of Sessantas on and burned off the rubber bits. The go nicely. I had a set of Vredestein Ultrac Centos on last time and they were great. I've had various Bridgestones before that, on my previous Scoobies. I found they had only average grip, tended to pick up nails and screws and didn't last much over 12K miles. Did one set in 8500! Vreds are great and good for fuel economy, too. My WRX Prodrive gets 31mpg with the occasional use of full power and 36 on a long run. Less if I constantly boot it, of course.

The wheels and tyres were balanced with refurb and twice more, but maybe the bare wheels are out of balance now. I'd love to try a set of Rossos on a back to back test.

Chap if the wheels have been refurbed you need to have them rebalanced! You can't just slap tyres on and run them as normal, the car would probably drive terribly! Sorry if I've misunderstood but that's how it reads
