Compbrake review
I need expiriences with Comprake 4 pot calipers and 330mm discs.
Stephen at Compbrakes says that they can stop a car of 500hp very very good.
Any comparisons, stoping power wise, with the APs or any other aftermarket kit and with the std 4pot of a classic?
What about weight?

I wouldn't pay much attention to what Stephen Fell says...
they try and pass the products off as their own manufactured kit, whereas the truth is that they are not. They can say what they like about WRC, rally cars, Alcon, AP, taking you out in their 'compbrake' equipped cars etc etc but when it comes down to it they have very little substance to what they say.
They were going to trial them and have them 'proven' on my car but it went a little quiet all of a sudden when the reality sunk in of me writing an unbiased review on here.
In terms of comparisons they are at the bottom of the pile. One guy who had them on here soon swapped them in favour of OE Brembos, which aren't a patch on AP.

It's what I thought.
However I try to contact Ian at Godspeed brakes but it seems impossible. I sent e-mails and I phoned but it's always his answering machine.
Does anybody know somthing?
I am looking for a good deal front 6 piston brakes and discs for 17" wheels./
Any ideas??

I was going to do a GB on these brakes but was put off my some comments on the thread.
My mate has them on his car (97 WRX) and his brother has brembos and says they are better than than the brembos off his 02 STi!!
I am still thinking of going for these though.

The full AP kit is quite a bit more expensive. Try Scoobymania Brakes - Scooby Mania or other scooby specialists for decent prices for the full AP kit.

If you would like to come to the factory to see the 6 pots being made your most welcome.
Oh and all the new ranges do now have corrosion seals for those that were in any way worried.
Yes I do work for them - so I can get them cheaper - how cheap you will just have to ask lol

I have dealt with Compbrake a fair bit over the last 12 months, as they made us a 4 pot kit for the Clio 182 cup. Performes very well indeed, and had some good feedback. But of course a 182 cup doesnt weigh as much as a scooby (tho it is as quick round the twisties!)

I had the 4 pot kit on my classic, which i used on several track days... here are my comments:-
Brakes worked well, although the Hawk pads had several issues for me.
Callipers
The design of the callipers is simple, but work. The main issue i had with the callipers was the rattle of the pads. All the other manufactures provide a an anti rattle spring, that can move as the pads expand under heat, but sadly this was missed off with the compbrake kit. this might be OK for the track, but rubbish for the road/every day use.
Hawk Pads
I found the feel of the standard pads fro road use pretty poor (I tried 2 different compounds).
The Hawk Plus track pads were awesome on track and gave great feel, however they shagged my wheels due to the amount of brake dust and the composition of this pad that left the brake dust baked on the wheel. I had the wheels painted and they had to grind the residue off! The pad also caused excessive disk wear.
In conclusion if you can find a different make of pad (something like pagid 29's for track and fast road) that will fit the kit then that will be a long way toward's a better setup. If you can manufacture an anti rattle spring then you will have a very good and very cheap setup.....

Those are just the front ones, they havnt even started advertising the all new uprated bigger rear kits yet lol. But those are now ready

I tried allsorts to quieten the b*****s and have ended up with an extra, oval-section sleeve on the retaining pin, snug against the pads.
I found the pads ok, although you do have to clean the wheels straight after a day using the track pads.
Are the Hawk roads pads available for the Subaru single-pot rear? I'd like to be able to use the same pads all-round.

Any more info on the uprated rear kits?? sizes and costs etc?

We run comp brake kits on our 2 subaru race cars, 1 runs the 6 pot kit and 1 runs the new style 4 pot kit. I Cant praise them enough. They work fantastically, even after a 20 minute hard race at brands hatch last week the pedal was still solid with no fade.
Both cars run non servo'd systems with bias pedal boxes and adjustable rear bias valves.
Not only do they do the job well but the back up support I had from comp brake was fantastic and they have gone out of their way to help me get back out in time for Snetterton next weekend. (I damaged one caliper going througha gravel trap)
I have never been fortunate enough to own a car with AP's so cant compare them.

I've got the old style 4 pots on the front of my 93 wrx. They perform excellently. I found the Hawk pads give off a lot of dust, but do the job no problem. They are a little abrasive on the disk though and i'm in the process of changing the pads to Mintex MDB1795M1155. I've got issues with the pads rattling though, they do make a lot of noise and clunks as the pad is free to move about. Has anybody resolved this problem? Can you get anti rattle clips like they use on the newer design calipers? This rattling is the only problem though and otherwise they are an awesome bit of kit.

Taylor - I had the same rattling Problem and Steve at comprake advised to fit residual valves in the brake lines that hold 2lbs of pressure in the lines and thus the pistons against the pads which did make some improvement. I supplemented this by also installing sticky backed shims to the pads. Only downside is that these will eventually ware out and need to be replaced.
Don't believe the AP hype. I've driven cars with both set ups on track days and couldn't differentiate on performance.
