Around 4pm yesterday a section (about a mile up the road from Walker Barn) was shut while the air ambulance landed, I've no idea what had happened but there were two road ambulances as well as the chopper, plus police everywhere.
Hope it wasn't too serious
I love riding that road but most Sundays there's bits of broken fairing on the verges and holes in the drystone walls.
I love that bit of road too. It's a great place to ride even if you stick to the new speed limit. But, it really spoils your day when you see the emergency services up there. It's never for a good reason !! I got my bike out yesterday for the first time this year. Still trying to recalibrate my mind !! I thought my WRX was quick but nothing compared to a bike ! Ride safely !
My freind VTRSteve told me about this today...................
He was following the guy on his bike, apparently he went into the corner all wrong and a bit too fast and ended up on the other side of the road, straight into a car head on, superman style................
if he was heading into Macc, I know the corner well, it's that deceptive left-hand elbow on the run down to Walker Barn (where the Setter Dog pub used to be), easy to cock it up if you don't go into it right ...
Oh thats so sad, hope he wasnt too badly injured. I find the road good at the legal limit, but its probably one to be avoided (like most of Derbyshire)

I only wondered about the Suzuki since I haven't noticed Happy Valley disappear in a haze of 2 stroke fog recently
I got your PM the other week, cheers
The CB just seems to get better all the time It's about to go back to being just my weekend toy very soon though, as I picked up a new commuting heap this weekend; An '86 FZ750 that's definitely seen better days
It's only been with us for 24 hours and it's already acquired the name 'Project Thunderdog'
How's it going with Thunderdog? Here's an alternative you might want to consider if your budget doesn't stretch beyond a rattle can of Halfords Matt Black.
Edited to add I was up the Cat & Fiddle yesterday (Sunday 31st), why was everyone going so slowly? There were no camera vans, and I didn't see any police cars or bikes. I followed two guys on recent-reg Bandits and they were doing about 35mph. I'm not saying go mad, but you can ride the road a bit quicker than that ...

I was up there on Sunday too funnily enough, I couldn't understand why everyone was going so slow either
Brand new sportsbikes should not be getting caught and passed by a 40 year old numptie on a 30 year old 550
I headed off over to Glossop and the Snake in the end, there was some good riding over there
The ThunderDog is progressing well, if a bit slowly, thanks for asking
The engine has been run, and is as sweet as a nut and the gearbox feels OK too . But the hydraulic clutch has been a pain in the ar5e I could not get the Yam master cylinder to pump fluid, even with a new seal kit fitted, so I've thrown it away (and the brake m/c) and banged a pair of Honda levers on instead, the hydraulics work a treat now
Dropped on a nice set of Yoshimura rearsets off ebay the other day, they're intended for a Gixxer of some description, but they'l be made to fit
As for paint, she's now wearing the upper fairings from an FZ400 with twin headlights, and once I'm happy with the final fit, the guy who painted the CB is going to go to town, something along the lines of Edwards' M1 at Laguna in 05

Know it well Tim, you're right it's a cracking road It's still 60 for the most part too, at the moment
r32, I ride a 30 year old CB550 that, thanks to it's current gearing, maxes out at about 90mph, it is plenty entertaining at 'legal' speeds on proper roads
Tim, I've lived in Bollington (Happy Valley) since '91 and I'm a born-againer, had nothing but bikes from my 17th birthday to 25.
Got a Suzi GT380 2-stroke triple in '98 for sunny / dry day fun and tinkering. Got to know the Cat / Whaley / Leek / Knutsford / Holmes Chapel roads pretty well
If I had a modern bike that actually goes, handles and stops I'd be dead in no time, so it's crap old 70s Jap tackle for me, you get a LOT of warning that you're pushing the envelope a bit too far

Tim, I live in Macclesfield, a stones throw from the foot of the C&F
I finally got round to doing my DAS in '05 after many years of deliberating, I do think if I'd been riding a bike back in my 20s though I wouldn't be here now
Like brickboy, and for the same reasons, I prefer older Jap tackle, albeit 4 rather than 2 smokes to modern sportsbikes The Thunderdog (see above) is as new as I'm ever likely to be going
I'm getting to know most of the roads around us pretty well from a two-wheeled POV, but I can still cover pretty much all of them on 4 wheels (Mk2 GTi 16V) quicker
This is the Purple Nasty with its Piper 3-1 fitted. I haven't used this pipe for a couple of years, I really should put it on again.
It is THE loudest pipe ever, although it stops the bike revving past 7,000 which means top speed is about 85mph. Worth it though just 'cos it makes everyone stop and look in the Cat & Fiddle car park
Nice bikes guys, one of my mates had an old kettle duno what pipes he had on it but that was bloody loud. I know Mac and Bolly well have friends there. I had a few classics myself eg ex IOM TT Dunstall Honda 750 bored out to 960, payed £300 for it Harris Magnum 2 with a GSX 1260 motor, Eddie Lawson rep Z1100R. And many more. But the day came, got married, kids the bikes went and got a scoob Plus the roads around here are crap.
Some nice tackle there Tim, I'd like to have seen that Honda
True, the roads aren't very twisty around Boston but they ARE fast, I was born & raised in Hull so I know the routes either side of the Humber pretty well too

I love riding that road but most Sundays there's bits of broken fairing on the verges and holes in the drystone walls.
I've got to say, I live on the Buxton side of the cat and most Sundays between 4 and 6 an ambulance goes up with sirens and lights. It's very sad.
I blame the Highway agency. There should be better barriers not only to protect the biker's but also the car drivers from the horror of hitting a bike that's misjudged a corner and to protect all of us from dropping over the edge.
Just my 2 bob's, no offence meant but you know it bothers me
Liz

Not very good pics, taken 20 yrs ago. The bike had gone through some owners before i got it but did see a few pics when it was in it's glory days. A guy called capper was the rider and owns a pub nr whaley. He had a few pics of it on his walls.

Nice looking Dunstall there Tim I bet it was a bit hairy on '70s tyres though, nice looking single front disc too
The rozzers were out on the C&F ruining everybody's weekend nice and early this morning, buzzing our house with that f**king spotter plane from half past nine
