Default 1st track day - any tips?

At Cadwell tomorrow.
I've raced cars there before, but never taken a bike on track. I'm fully expecting to have the slowest bike there.
Fitted some crash bungs and a video camera anyway, and I'm in the Novice group. Maybe there'll be someone out on a Honda Cub I can bother!

Hi, firstly enjoy it, basics are, remember there is always someone quicker than you, dont get the red mist, let your tyres get warm, learn the lines ( they will be different to a car ) its surprising how bloody tired you get,and have fun!

I took the mirrors off, taped over the speedo and then just took it easy and eased myself in to the day. Warmed the tyres nicely and then just enjoyed it. Don't feel under pressure to ride any quicker than you are happy with. I did Oulton Park on a novice track day so the braking zones were marked out with cones. As I got a bit more confident I braked a little later, cranked it over a bit more and then the speed came naturally !! I was that nervous before I arrived that I didn't eat properly and feeling hungry just distracted me. Most importantly though enjoy yourself !!!

Interesting day!
bloody hot too with no a/c in the car on the way back

got a fair bit faster through the day - having faith in the tyres. I've never had to crank the bike over before, so that was a steep learning curve, so to speak. such a twisty track too - I didn't notice so much in the car

the bike takes some settling though, with the soft forks and 3" raise at the back - hardly ideal!
Speedo's broken, so I'll have to try and work some speeds out, but I think 11000 rpm in top must be about 115, as it tops out at 120

bought the cd of photos, since I could take my own...

not sure if this will work -never used utube

nice video, that. How many laps did you do overall?

Some amusing black lines leading off the track on one or two of the blind corners there

not bad for a first bash and a cheap camera

I only did 3 sessions - had to get home early, but probably about 12 laps

if like me you watch the vid shouting 'change up you c*ck!', in my defence, the gear change on the bike is terrible, and I damaged my knee at the weekend (jumping down from a tomb stone when shooting a group shot at a wedding, of all things...), so it was a painful experience!

I also locked the rear a few times when changing down, which a lesson learned for future

I was there in october on my R6. You did the right thing, take it easy for the first session, learn the turning/braking points.

My friend was up there last week, with a couple of his mates. His mate had just aquired his cbr1000- moved up from his 600. Well it happened while trying to chase down the rider in front, huge highside at the bottom of the goose neck

Rider pretty bruised up, bike went end over end, so not in good shape either. My mate nearly **** himself as he was right behind watching his mate looking back at him whilst flying through the air. He then just managed to miss the tumbling cbr1000.

Good video
