Default Getting the hang of it now after 3 months in the saddle

Im so glad i bought the R1 as my 1st bike. The bike is great and so easy to ride. After doing Brands GP with some friends, one has bought an R1 and the other is seriously considering it after being on green for about 6 years. I was dropping it down 1 gear into 3rd at the end of the back straight and not having to change gear again until coming out of clearways.

Here's some pics

and here is a couple of laps from the 2nd season with the 2nd lap being about a 1.50. The afternoon session was a little quicker with 1.45's

Silverstone GP next in August

I took out the new R1 for a test ride. What a bike, it just goes into corners, so easily. I couldnt belive the performance from it, low down grunt and screaming top end. I found it to be too much work on the road below 80mph, but I bet its a hoot on a track.

Looking at your pictures and bearing in mind your '1st bike' thread i for one under-estimated your riding abilities
I prefer the bike without the monster stickers, if i am correct in thinking thats what they are .

Andy, are you serious about being too much for the road, yes it's quick but it is so easy to ride. If the throttle action is a bit quick there is always the B-mode. Also what i have found too that quite a few have a lot of free play in the throttle which makes it quite jerky to ride. Take out the free play with he adjuster and it is so much smoother..... I find with the tractability of the engine that it is so much easier to ride on the road than a regular 1000.

Is that a compliment Yes still playing with sticker idea's. I dont know if to stay stealth or brighten it up a bit. As it's a black bike the Fiat Yamaha test colours ( white stickers on carbon bodywork ) are appealing to me but may just leave it as it is for this year and go for next year's livery

RB5Scott, I'm quite a big fella and use a rather comfy FJR1300. I know doubt it is more comfy for a smaller person. My wrists and neck were stiff after an hours ride, but I found the pain was relieved when the wind lifted me off the bike at 80mph. I will consider getting a nearly new one for a track bike in a year or so.

Taffy,

I just wish i did it alot earlier, but then again it was probably better to wait for me to grow up a bit

You will love it as long as it's dry No seriously i learned more about the bike on track than i did on the road. It was one of the best things i have done to improve my riding. It just shows you how far the bike will actually go, just remember to take off another 30% though when you get back on the roads for obvious reasons of grip/obsticles
