Default windows updates will not install help

I have just formatted my hard drive and re install xp with service pack 2 back on to my computer.

I then downloaded service pack 3 that install fine, but now it will not download any other updates and it will not install msn.

This is really bugging me any ideas please help

wish i never bothered now.

Are you using Windows update or Microsoft update, which is newer and has updated installers and background services.

I had that problem with a laptop which didnt (not to my knowledge @ first) have a licensed windows on it. well annoying! all sorted now though

This is a known microsoft bug, the fix is available on the MS website.

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you perform a new Windows XP installation or you repair a Windows XP installation

I've had this a few times. Running this batch file resets everything so that windows update works again:
