Need some info as to what the regs are to supply the garage with electric.. Its about 30m from the mains dis board at the front of the house so the question is, what size SWA cable do i need, and how deep does it have to be... Bearing in mind there's no vehicle access where the cable will be...
It will need to be protected by an RCD, and you will need a Part P approved sparky to do the work. You can dig your own trench though. That'll save you some dough. I'll have to double check the regs, but I'd go at least a foot down, preferably 2 foot.
The SWA cable needed depends on what you intend to have in the garage though, so make a list and I can let you know
this is true, but depending on you local athority you may have to notify before you start work, this can be a long process because it follows the same routes as other building regs, certanly the case with mine, slow anit the word, find a local sparky who will let you supply the parts and do most of the work.
Finally got round to checking the regs;
According to the 16th Edition (Third Edition)
There are no specific requirements given to the required depth.
But as a guideline 400mm is mentioned for under a hard standing e.g. slabs/driveway but up to 700mm is recommended if the cable will be in an area where it is possible digging would occur.
Once again remember the hazard warning tapes etc.
