Folks my mum is getting a new kitchen installed on Monday comming and i have a few questions....
....when the old kitchen was removed there was 2 corners in the room which had blackened walls due to condensation/mould building up behind them ....Now the house was flooded some years back which i suspect didnt help much and the kitchen had no real good heating system until last year, so was always a cold area anyway, add to that a few weeping pipes in the corner and it wasnt much wonder there was condensation in the corners
Now that the old kitchen has been removed, the complete kitchen area dried out with a dehumidifier, and two small 2 inch air vents installed on the lower walls of the kitchen to help things, im sure that there is adequate air flow to keep things ok now, but im wondering would i have to do anything with the blackened walls before the new kitchen goes in, i.e treat them with anything or use anything to clean them up, the black parts i am talking about are just at the very bottom of the walls and are on the bare brick/plaster below sink/worktop level.
The house has cavity walls and the blackened areas were not really wet at all (apart from the leaky pipe area) so the proplem is not rising damp or anything like that, i just want to make sure that now the area is fresh and has a good air supply around now with the new kitchen going in, and what should i do with the blackened walls?
- Should I leave them alone now and fit the kitchen as they are dry and will be fine now with the air vents etc fitted and proper heat in the kitchen area?
- Paint a treatment on the walls like acid brick cleaner or such?
- Paint over with a specialist paint for condensation/mould?
The blackened areas will not be seen at all and awill be in behind the new units and will not be painted/tiled over
Any ideas from home improvement guru's or painters/decoraters would be greatly appreciated here
