Hi guys, anybody know how much power has been put thru an auto box? i know a guy who builds racing auto boxes (valve mods and matching the torque converter to the engine) that will smoke the tyres on a diesel range rover when pulling away from the lights, that allow you to shift up and down like a manual box.
With my manual box fcuked, and more than a few people on here on their 2nd or 3rd box (eh?) I wondered about the advantage of no more clutch burning out, boxes blowing/stripping.......:Suspiciou
General consensus on the Forester forum is that the Subaru auto box is a robust bit of kit and OK upto around 300 BHP.
I don't know of anyone with one beyond that figure but no doubt somebody else will !

I wouldn't call 300bhp Robust.
Perhaps I should have added that this was in reference to the SF5 Forester and not the later ones. As mine is the SF5 I can only comment on this. If the original poster is after a higher figure then he/she will obviously have to make further investigation.
As the standard BHP for the import SF5 is around 240 then a margin of 25% increase to 300 seems quite sound and a good added value.
Without knowing what Mjtelectrical has in mind I was just giving the little bit of info that I know re the Forester autobox.
Cheers

I run a modified 94 WRX auto which has been tuned to 280-300bhp and the box is fine so far (touch wood) over 8 years later...
I have fitted a supplementary Mocal oil cooler and use Amsoil full synthetic ATF as well.
I know in Australia they use Auto WRXs for drag racing...
Thanks

Does anyboby know what differences there are with the manual / auto loom, sensor wiring etc as this may be a way to overcome the trans. weakness problems without lashing out silly money for gearsets.
