Question Gauges

Good Morning,

As most of you know ive just got my WRX and im looking to fit some gauges. Just wondering how easy it is to do it myself as i dont wanna **** it up!

I'm looking at the following gauges which are a boost and a oil temp/press gauge from Mocal. other question is what else do i need (other than a pod to put em in) to fit em?

Ive sources a side pod to mount the in and that looks like the easist bit

thanks in advance guys

I've just fitted some cheapo prosport warning/recall gauges in a pillar pod. I like the idea of them flashing and beeping at me they over boost or oil pressure drops.
I figure that issues will occur when being driven hard, when Im driving the car hard I'm dfinately not watching gauges. Fittings easy, making a neat job of it is the difficult part.

Excellent customer support from these guys too.

You'll want an adapter to fit the oil press/temp senders in. This will locate in the oil gallery plug above cylinder 3.
LMA make them, available from most places inc Demon Tweeks etc. Get one that suits the thread size of your senders.

I have Mocal boost + oil press/temp gauges and they've been working fine for 11 years! As they're 'mechanical' they tend to be more reliable than electrical units (especially Prosport!)
For the pressure gauges you'll need the correct tubing and depending where you take the pressure from, suitable T-pieces. Alternatively, you could use a sandwich plate at the oil filter.
I routed the tubes through a blanking plug in the bulkhead near to the steering column.
The gauges are mounted in a pod that replaces the clock on the dashboard top.

I recommend not using a sandwich plate as they're prone to leaking aswell as being less accurate for oil temp/pressure than that of the main oil gallery.

This is the adapter you'll meet. Just specify NPT or BSPT depending what your senders require. http://www.scoobyparts.com/acatalog/...TTING_KIT.html

You should have pipe & tees in the gauge kit for the boost take off but you may need some more. The dump valve line is always an easy one to use for this gauge and can be hidden out of sight easily.

I got mine from Burton Performance on the A12 Ilford.
For oil pressure I used a Tpiece in the warning light sender hole so to retain the warning light. Temp sender is located at the oil pump. Boost pressure from the dump valve vac tube via a t-piece.

They should be able to give you all the fitting advice and supply the relevant adapters and tubing etc. Although they are Ford specialists, it's all pretty much the same.

If you're anywhere near Romford and want a look at my gauge set-up give me a shout!

Good Evening gentlemen!

Got an issue

installed the boost gauge today as had a spare moment with the small ones either out or asleep

so i plumbed in all in and followed a very helpful guide on the forums. Started the car expecting it to drop form 0Psi to a negative figure and nothing happened!

took her for a spin and she still boosts fine so i aint done any damage...
plus the gauge flickers after I let off. So have I done it wrong?

Ive not actually made any cuts in the pipes are there was a joining peice in the pipe so u used that

It's because of the restrictor pill. Put your tee inline with the oem dump valve Maz.

Yeah, in my PM I recommended a tee-piece in the manifold to dump valve tube. Don't forget the small tie-wrap to squeeze the joining tube to stop needle flutter.
