Default 3 Port Boost Solenoid

Hi All,

Can anyone explain to me EXACTLY how a 3 port boost solenoid works, I.E what opens and when etc...?

Having some problems with my car and I think if I understand this a little better I will have more of a chance to fix it.

fitting one is easy..plenty of images on google on what hose goes where...if you are going from a 2 port to 3 port (like you should be) then you will need it mapped in.

This one has the same 1,2,3 diagram as mine... can somebody please explain for example what the name for the ports are? I know there are things like COM, NC, NO etc, I just dont know if 1=COM or whatever?

I'm trying to set up an electronic boost controller and when I change the settings on the boost controller not much seems to change, so am just trying to check I have everything right

NO=Turbo
COM=Wastegate
NC=intake or VTA

Ok, that helps a lot thank you quango... do you know what numbers correspond to NC,NO,COM on the above diagram?

what boost controller are you using? I will be able to work it out. using that Cobb one might not help if the ports are in a different order.

It's a Greddy Profec B Spec 2... I'm not actually using that COBB one, mine is a MAC one as below with the same order ports, I just used other photo as clearer...

ok, for an internal wastegate setup (stock) it should be as below.

left side port = Wastegate
Right side port = intake or VTA
centre port = turbo

PS: with this electronic controller the whole setup will need to be tuned. changing the solenoid will most likely lead to lean points on your map. a good tuner can set up the controller properly and give you a few tune options too.

NC = Normal Closed (should be 1)
NO = Normal Open (should be 3)
Then 2 will be COM (common?)

make sure you get a re-map when fitted or you run a big risk of boost spikes.
