Default burning smell is back again

recently had both rocker gaskets replaced on my classic as they were pi$$ing out and obviously giving off a lot of smoke/smell when the engine was up to temperature. been fine for 1000 miles or so but the same smell has gradually come back again, and smoke coming from somewhere around/under the turbo. (smoke is only really noticeable when the bonnet is open though unlike before)
however there is absolutely no oil leak this time and the underside of the engine is completely dry. car still drives perfect...
could this mean the turbo is on the way out...

It could be the turbo oil feed or return pipe perhaps?

would that cause it to smell like it's burning oil again?

Yeah it could indeed, if oil is spraying or dripping on the hot exhaust or turbine housing it'll certainly burn off and cause smoke.

I've read that the oil return pipe can be a problem and if you're sure it's not the rocker cover, it's bound to be around the turbo. If it's a union on the turbo itself you won't see any wet patches as the housing is so hot it'll burn the oil straight away. Check it out when the turbo is cold using a torch and mirror to see underneath it too. It's really the only thing in that area that has an oil feed to it.

im 99% sure its not the rocker covers as these were done by a proper rally engine specialist with proper gasket sealer unlike the garage that did it before

i should get chance to have a look around it wednesday...
