Have you taken the cam covers off and matched it up?

Hmmmmm.....

Should you be changing the belt if you don't know what it looks like or where it goes?

Agreed. You know what they say - having no knowledge is ok...but a little knowledge can be dangerous

Seriously mate, at least get someone who knows what they are looking at and has previously changed a cambelt to help. I don't want to give you APi's phone number to sort out the bent valves

I think he means be careful if you clamp the camshaft pulleys together. As they are not metal, they are plastic and can be broken.

I guess a part of the reason why plastic was chosen, is that plastic is a lightweight material, lowering the total weight of the valvetrain?

yes that is true, but when you fit the belt you need a third and fourth hand if you havent got a mate with you.
In which case you need to clamp them together.
