Default EJ20BUG ???

Hi to the scoobynet community!
I'm a new member registred since 15 minutes :-) and I've already technical questions.
I've got some identification issues with my scooby:
On the VIN plate are written:
Applied model: GF8CL8D
Engine type: EJ20GNW4HA
Transmission type: TY752VN3AA (matches with the IN on the gear box)

Issues come from the engine...EJ20BUG (closed deck engine) are stamped on the engine and TD05H on the turbo unit. The car is running with the 6D ecu.
I've learn/read that the turbocharger is not as standard. Should be a TD04(L?)...

Someone could help me to know which engine is really in this f4cking car??? Euro/UK? WRX import? Available BHP?

If someone needs more information from me to identify it, he'll get them :-)

Thanks in advance

Cyrille

The 7 digit "applied model" code found on the vehicle identification plate inside the engine bay is decoded in the following way.
1.Series code G=Impreza S=Forester B=Legacy etc.
2.Body type F=Wagon C=Sedan
3.Engine type 8=2.0L Turbo
4.Year code A=MY93 B=MY94 C=MY95&96 D=MY97 (facelift) E=MY98 F=MY99 G=MY00
5.Number of doors 2=2 door coupe 4=4 door saloon 5=5 door wagon/hatch
6.Model type 8=WRX 7=RA type E=Sti D=Sti Type R & RA
7.Transmission D=5 Speed Manual AWD P=4 Speed Automatic AWD

G = Impreza
F = Wagon
8 = 2.0L Turbo
C = MY95&96
L = ?
8 = WRX
D = 5 Speed Manual

I think the 'L' could be a '5'

standard wrx wagon is 'GF8C58D 220ps WRX 5 door'

this is a 95' wagon . You're right. But this car iss registered as the 211PS car!
And a td04 should be built in, instead of a td05!
It looks like my car has been modified before I bought it. But I've no history and maybe the engine+turbo unit have been replaced...maybe for a WRX import engine. That's I've tried to find out...

The engine could have been changed, as I don't believe that model came with a closed deck engine (if it has one in??) you can tell for sure if it is a CDB by cross hatching near the oil pump. even then it is unsure what internals you have.

You can have the car mapped via an ESL daughterboard and push around 320 BHP if you wanted to...

Standard BHP should be around 220-240 I believe

If it is running a TD05 then I hope that it already has some form of map tweek.

check by opening the ecu (passenger footwell) and see if it has a chip installed.

I've just checked on the cylinder heads on the intake side...there is no cross hatching but straight lines..means it is actually an ODB? I've often heard 1993-1996 EJ20G engine have ODB...
"EJ20" is stamped on the engine block although EJ20GNW4HA is on the VIN plate. Is it normal?
Concerning the chip, I've already opened the ecu box and there is no additional chip at all.

Those marks are on the heads and have no relevance whatsoever to it being a CDB or ODB. most likely it has a ODB in it and is a standard car apart from the TD05. I'm not sure if the ECU is correct for the turbo either. Probably best to either fir a Z4 ECU or a daughter board and get it mapped and reap the benefits.

A z4 is quite hard to find...I bought on the week-end a 2C ecu to run safely..this ecu comes from a 240bhp wrx 95 running with the td05 too. The engine internals are not the same but let see..Moreover I bought a walbro 255 because I've serious underboosting problems since I run with V-power. I hope it will solve that. Let see on thursday...If not, I should buy a wrx my95/96 engine to enjoy the 260 genuine bhp :-)
Thanks a lot
