Default Do you own Gt Spec Gen II Headers ????

If the answer is 'Yes' I'd really appreciate your opinions !!!!!

Getting my 2005 Suabru 2.0 Sti Type Uk mapped very soon with Andy Forest, but just to put it simply I have to decide whether or not I want to order a set of these Gt Spec Gen II Unequal Length headers on Monday. So undecided about these as alot of guys seem to go the header route then end up selling them. Have also been searching the net for sound clips but struggling to find many.

So could I have opinions from anyone who has owned a set of these headers, about whether they like them or not, liked or disliked the sound, found much improvement over a full system, do you have a sound clip, bla bla bla.....

Really hope some of your guys reply. I need help on this one.....

Thanks in advance !

Ricky !

In what way; the lack of GTSPEC plaque?

They are essentially the same product.

I have the Tracktive GT Spec II headers on my car with the ceramic coating.
I found the noise change strange for approx. 5 mins then forgot the old noise, LOL. They actually improved my motorway driving as there was a lot less droning through my Ninja BB!
As for the sound, well, they are different but you still get some burble as they are unequal, and when you blat it, OO, oh yeah, that is a lovely noise! Ha. They sound superb when up the revs, and that is just in my 7k limit WRX.
You gotta make sure you get the right quality to start with then you would have no reason to get rid of them.
I do not have any sound clips, but i could try to get one done
Mine have the 3 bolt solid up pipe flange which is half the battle.
Dont buy anything with poxy flexible bits in them, as Andy F and many others can prove, they aint good enough and will blow at some point.
I like my headers and they got me the desired torque up the range too.
Not cheap, i didnt look anywhere else as at the time i had my eye on these, i could view them at Tracktive before i bought.

I assume this is a 2 litre car. What turbo?
I run these headers on my STi 6 Wagon aiming for over 600 bhp on 2 litres. Because the headers are unequal length, the burble of the flat four engine is still evident. With equal length headers the burble diappears and the car sounds more like a large Jap four cylinder motorbike.
On two other wagons I have, at 422 bhp and 335 bhp I run ported O/E headers which give very good spool, response and noticably more power across the whole rev range. With tubular headers you are likely to loose out on spool and the area under the graph is smaller unless you are running a big turbo going for high power, probably a long way past 400 bhp on 2 litres.

Car is in my plus profile Harvey. Ported headers was one of my choices at the time but i went down the 'spend lots' route instead of a more sensible choice.
Spool i will agree on for sure, these headers along with the VF34 moved that up the revs anyway. When you talk about 'the area under the graph' i do not know what you really mean by that.
But as regards power, i have plenty of that across the revs but i cannot obviously compare it to ported headers as i have never had any.

Ricky, if you are looking for the best torque and BHP from your car then forget about ported headers, you will not make the same bhp although torque may be similar.
Here is a link to a car of exactly the same age and model as yours, running GT spec 2 headers. I've never seen VF35's do anywhere near this on cast headers.

A lot of the ported header promotion on here lately has been of suspicious origin

agree 100%

the venturi(sp?) in the 3bolt uppipe with these headers aids spool etc and are unequal so retail the sound

Just looking at that graph via Andy's link above, mine is very similar, although the figures are lower on my car, but the revs per ib/ft output is uncannily similar.
If i knew how to post my excel file or what to convert it to, to post it here i would do. LOL.
Andy, I have a Delta Dyno excel file from Bob, how the hell can i post it here?

If you can right click and save it as a .jpg or .bmp file then go to tinypic.com and upload it.

Agree with AndyF and JGM. My experience didn't bear the above out. I went from ported OEM headers to GT Spec headers on an MY03 STI running an MD321H making just under 400bhp (at that time - more now ) and the spool was virtually identical - perhaps just a fraction later (100rpm or so). However, (with appropriate mapping) I also gained an absolutely massive amount of mid and top end torque, with no loss of low down torque. A huge improvement - night and day difference - and one of the best mods I've done.

Andy... out of curiosity, you said you had these in stock. Do you have the ceramic coated header or just the normal one ? Also if just the normal one have you the wrapping for the headers in stock. Also mate what would be the best time to phone you tomorrow (Monday) if I want a set of these ? I need to order them Monday or tuesday to get them in time for fitting before you come over to Ireland !!!! Please reply tonight if possible....

Cheers !!!!
