Differences in classic block hardware?

I'm putting together a closed deck block from an early Type RA. I have the block hardware from both this and my later MY98 WRX lump. There are three main parts that seem different and I need to know how much I can mix and match to use the better/newer parts, and if there is any performance/fitting difference between them.

The water crossover pipe on the top of the block is much straighter on the earlier block. If I use this will it foul on my phase 1.5 manifold, or can I just reuse my curvier water pipe from my MY98?

The cambelt tensioner - early one looks like a miniature damper, the later one looks more solid. Which is better?

I have two sumps, with what seem to be different oil strainer arrangements. Does it matter which I use? They look to be a straight swap for each other?

If the coolant temp sensor is in the same place ie at the back,then it should fit ok.
I personally prefer to use the earlier tensioner as they have a 2 bolt fixing and more secure as opposed to a single bolt on the later tensioner - see pic below - result of a late tensioner bolt shearing



The sump,baffle plate/windage tray and pick up pipe are interchangable but go for the later single support pick-up pipe instead of the earlier clamp type pick-up.
