Default help with engine rebuild

ok guys i'm desprate for info and cant find what i need on the net. i cant seem to get my second scooby running right and have lost all interest so i'm gonna rebuild my other scobby engine that went bang.

would i be best using my wrx block and rebuild it with forged internals or would a cdb be better with forged internals?

i'm led to beleive that sti engines were forged internals but was it cdb they used?

basically what do you guys recomend for strengh as i dont want it going bang again. i'm not really looking to make any extra bhp but would be a bonus lol.

maybe you have a cdb in ur garage or sti engine? let me know if you can help out as i'm stuck lol

ok something else i would like to know is as far as i know putting forged internals into a block will only make it stronger and cope with higher power but will not add bhp alone. but what about the heads? is it worth getting work done on these while they are off? my engine had bottom end failure so dont think i'd need to touch the heads but like i said is it worth getting them ported and polished?

if you want the most power avialible , port the heads as well , also forge internals will make you more power , i think the sti version 4 and the 22B come with cdb
If you are going 500 +bhp , a cdb is best

ok guys i have called subaru and i can get a complete new sti block for £800 + vat, (to fit a classic)

what sort of power can i get out of this block and would i be better just buying one of these instead of stripping mine and rebuilding it blah blah blah.

what is the difference between wrx and sti heads as my old engine is a wrx so thats the heads i'd be fitting to the sti block?

any advice would be great guys

if you only going to run it around 300-380bhp , the sti block will be "ok"

400+ get a forge engine

a standard STI crank is very good RCM use these in builds well over 500 hp unless there is an unlimmited budget,
an open deck block is fine unless you are looking for well over 450 hp
all the 2.5s are open deck or (semi closed deck) which is a joke if youv seen one.
sti's heve forged pistons and all the rods are the same although iv heard it said the sti's rods are more even weight through hand selection when being built,
A closed deck block wont build horse power neither will it hurt,
it IS stronger no doubt thats why RCM will sell a complete 2.5 short block for under two grand but a CDB bare is over £1100
you have to be carefull you keep saying block and you will get a block sorry if i missunderstand but it seems your looking for a short block which is block crank pistons all assembled
Can you realy get a brand new short block from subaru for £800??
seems funny that thats about what a bare 2.5 block costs from Zen brand new from subaru which is nothing special just exactly that a new bare block
so if its a short block it is a good deal if its a bare block its exactly what you have already when you dissasemble yours

Badbird thinks you should all buy American car world magazine and see a real badbird in the centre pages

I would imagine the £800 Subaru one is one of their Reconditioned short motors done here in the UK.
