Question wrx powergains

i had a rolling road the other day and was not impressed with the results, mine is a 2.0ltr turbo wrx and the only mods i have is a scooby world system mid cat back to a vortex box. also under the bonnet is a K&N typhoon kit. now iv been told that the induction kit will make the car lose power as its not high enough on the power to have one, but i was told the the exshust is also a restrition on the car too ! can any confirm this ?

i predicted that the figures would be around 240ish but was lucky to get 212 which is 6 lower than standard power, can someone point me in the right direction to get some more horses under the bonnet with out brecking the bank .......

speak to bob rawle mate, get him to map it for you, should be good for 275 ,i would get an sti up pipe decat (bout 30 quid of here or ebay), or go for full decat vf35 turbo bout £280,pink injectors £150 good for 320bhp with plenty torque all day ,but u will need a remap with all those mods but u wont be disappointed

i wouldnt put an induction kit on an un mapped car, they are prone to killing the mafs on theses cars, the standard air box performs well up to 350 if not more,i ran for 12 months at 330 bhp on the oem air box with no probs

2001 bugeye wrx left the factory with 215 BHP and that's what the very clever ECU is programmed to do. Messing with the induction / exhaust etc may improve spool up (which is pretty good on the TD04) but will do little for top end.

I'd personally go for a re-map and then see what gains can be achieved

Ive got a 2002 bugeye WRX & ive achived 283bhp with fitting a miltek full decat 3" system from the turbo back,K&N panel filter,Silcone Y branch(below intercooler),walbro 255 fuel pump,7b NGK plugs & an Andy F remap!

Been told the oe turbo fitted to the wrx is only good for round about 285bhp so if im looking for anymore power i'll have to ugrade the turbo, injectors & another remap should see me up to about 300bhp!!!

But this seems alot of cash to shell out for an extra 17bhp if you ask me!

maybe change the induction kit to a standard box setup with a decent panel filter.

On a rolling road the car will be very hot (even if fans are on full blast) so your car will be sucking in hot air which will reduce performance so a few bhp down on standard with those few mods is not bad (I dont think you would be getting much extra from the exhaust bits you have).

Thats the problem with rolling roads, it leaves people disappointed when they get their numbers but if it drives like it should then dont worry about it

2001 wrx bugeye with freeflow panel filter, decat centre and remap was 250/238, improved the response and mpg.
Then... vf28, decat up pipe, sportcat downpipe, pink injectors, fuel pump, total cost of parts about £750 plus another remap and now at 333/310..
pulls like hell now and I still get the same mpg (27ish).

I managed 223.6 bhp and 226 ft/lb with an ITG panel and a Prodrive BB, and subsequently found out the plug gaps were all over the place. So pretty happy with that. (2002 wrx on Tesco 99 BTW - std is 215/215 I think)

Looking forward to the next run to see if some other bolt on exhaust mods have made a difference...

Only 6bhp down on a 7 year old car that hasn't been remapped? I'd be chuffed with those results mate! Top Gear has proved that cars loose BHP over the years. Get it remapped though and then tell us what you find.
