Default Lambda Sensor

Got CEL on again today, was originally diagnosed as O2 Sensor, we tried a reset and light stayed off for a week. So time to replace the sensor I think. Anyone know if I will have a 3 wire or a 4 wire sensor as Ive come across this site.
Lambda Sensors - Cats Direct and not sure which to try.

Thanks

Chris

PS Car is a 2001 WRX

just done some more reading on here and seen it mentioned a few times that only genuine ones work on newage cars??
Can anyone confirm that they have used a 4 wire universal o2 sensor on a newage? (the one in the headers). And did it work?

Hi Chris,

is it a sensor failure or is it just whinging 'cos you've a non-standard (de-catted ?) exhaust ?

Just asking as mine used to throw a CEL, but stopped after the re-map.

Sorry if off track, but I thought I'd ask....

Not sure to be honest. When Chy at penine subaru read the code he said the sensor was reading correctly, and to try a reset and see how it goes.

He did recommend a new one if it flashed up again though. If a Universal one isnt suitable I may have to bite the bullet and fork out dealer prices

Gonna check all the wiring etc tomorrow, hopefully something simple like a damaged wire

I've just been thru all this stuff recently and ended up getting one from Jap Performance Parts : Home. It's a genuine Subaru part from a wrecked car and was £75. Part No: 22641AA042
It's 4 wire and as said before the universal ones appear not to work with Newage ECU.
Camskill also do one for £150 - Denso one.
SUBARU IMPREZA TURBO PARTS Lambda Oxygen Sensor - 2002 Impreza 2002 Impreza Onwards : £149.00 : Subaru Impreza Turbo Parts, Tuning, Spares & Accessories : Engine - Misc -

Hope this helps! My error code was P0031 iirc and the light went off as soon as the replacement one was plugged in.

Thanks alot mate thats a great help, was hoping to avoid the rip off dealer prices.

So if I read it correctly you didnt require your ecu resetting afterwards?

Thanks again

nope - light went off as soon as we started the car up...it had been coming on then going off again regularly but then eventually stayed on permanently - I think it does 3 cycles of starting up, driving turning off as a diagnostic then if the error still exists it stays on all the time.

The code seemed to clear itself but will still be recorded in the ECU as a historical error - I believe that can be cleared too but since the car is running fine (and less rich!) I am not too worried

Have found an Italian company that manufactures various car parts and they seem to have the near identical part i require.

http://www.facet.it/db_comp/catalogo/catalogo.asp

Did a search using subaru part number 22690AA501 and came back with 10.7805 as the replacement.

Will try to find a retailer here in the UK. Just to compare prices for the oxygen sensor that i require.
