Default Fuel tank top nuts: Is it ok to have one missing?

Hi all, as the title suggests, i've just snapped one of the 8 nuts on fuel tank top. Was checking what fuel pump I have prior to the car being mapped in a few weeks.

Put it all back together and over-tightened the one in the middle on the left hand side(where the fuel lines run past). Will this make any difference? If so, does anyone have any suggestions as to what I do about it?

All advice appreciated

Thanks, Alan

You'll be fine with just the one missing mate.

All back together now. Had to leave it last night when it got dark, but got it in my uncle's garage tonight. Turns out the car doesnt have a walbro, so will need to get one before mapping. Cheers

Whilst you're sorting out getting a Walbro, I "would" get another nut, because I very much doubt the lid will seal properly, and you will get the smell of petrol in the car.

Sorry I didnt make it clear in my original post. It was the thread that snapped with the nut on it, from overtightening it. Where would I get one of those?

You can't, as it's a stud welded to the tank. You'll have to try as is, and see, otherwise it will need to be played with, maybe a self tapper, or a bolt fixed from the opposite side. Either way it's a pain, but probably easier than changing the tank.

I'd suggest putting some decent sealant around the area where the bolt is missing on both sides of the gasget just to be sure you have an air tight seal.

Thanks for both the replies. The self tapper sounds good to me, although the tank would need to be off and emptied. Really didn't expect this to be so much hastle . That'll teach me to be rough with things .

I'm a steel erector...used to using 30mm spanners, not 8mm. lol!
