I think the heads are identical the cams may be slightly different but either would easy support 400 hp and quiet a bit more as well

Badbird thinks you should all buy American car world magazine and see a real badbird in the centre pages

dont worry about blocks, open, semi closed and closed will all take over 400bhp with the relevant internals.

oh back to the heads, both will do the job, think it may be harder to find v3 heads though and they do suffer from cracks in the casing

HI v3 have as was described to me as the laireyer cams, which i presume means they have a shorter lift and makes for faster excelleration
but i doubt that a mere mortal would notice the difference..

Jay it is the later version 5/6 heads that suffer from cracking round the spark plugs not the v3/4 heads

If you don't know something for sure, please don't post as you are just adding confusion.
Closed deck blocks have NOTHING to do with cylinder heads.
Ver 3 and 4 cars ie Phase 1.5 all have open deck blocks as do ver 5 and 6 cars. SOME Phase 1 & 2 cars have CDBs.
As Banny says, cracked heads are common on ver 5 and 6 STis but not usually 1-4 or ver 7 onwards.
STi 3 or 4 heads will have the shims under the bucket whereas the WRX is shims on top of the bucket. Same for STi 5,6 etc.
