Exclamation CONE FILTER FOR EASILY OVER 400BHP ???

Right, there are plenty of you out there running 400+ bhp. So what's the best cone air filter that easily flows enough for over 400bhp. Not on the edge of 400, but past it!

Also, presumably a Z32 MAF will be required with it (or go MAFless)?

A large K&N trumpet would do the trick and yes a Z32 or sti 3/4 maf, if sticking with the maf based route.

Cheers banny.

So the STi v.3/4 MAF would do? Is that the same venturi size as the Z32 one? They're both orange label ones aren't they?

Presumably, the v.3/4 flows c.25% more air mass than the Z32, then? (I was always under the impression that it was the Z32 one that was 'the daddy'? )

Depends on the MAF element. Green label OE phase1 MAF flows circa 330HP, Z32 450+ HP. Both same 80mm ID

Okay, thanks for that excellent info.

.For the record, what is the STi v.3/4's rated at? Past 400bhp?

Question

Dragging this thread up again...

I got a MAF adaptor, but it's venturi is only 76mm diameter. The Z32's mesh sensor area is 80mm.

Will this give a false reading, seeing as the air wont be passing over the whole of the mesh? (i.e. there'll be a c.10% concentric 'ring' of redundant mesh area around the outside of the adaptor).

Also will it limit potential power gains too?

Your mapper will have to calibrate the the ECU to the MAF so I wouldn't worry too much.

It will still be 80mm ID when air passes over the sensor anyway.

Does the adaptor not mate pretty much right up to the sensor then i.e. so air can get to all of the sensor's 80mm's worth, as it leaves the adaptor's 76mm venturi?

Look into the MAF and you'll see the sensor, its about 3" past the gauze, so no its not next to either end of the MAF tube.

Oh yeah, sorry being thick.

Of course, it's not the gauze that's part of the sensor.

What purpose does that stiff metal gauze serve?
