Walbro fuel pump failure x 2 ! Heat wave??
Replaced my exisiting walbro fuel pump on friday as it was whining very loud, the replacement walbro went in and it was spot on, took the car for a long drive through some heavy traffic and heat today and its whining again but this time its louder and you can hear it stuggling on idle as its not whining continuosly, however the car does drive spot on...the car is running a simtek ecu and the rest of the spec can seen in my garage, has it got something to do with the heat or methanol fuel mix or is it just pure coincidence I've ended up with 2 duff pumps, any ideas ?

doesnt sound too good but im pretty sure its something silly if you got a faulty pump i suggest not ripping it and dont even drive till u find out the cause to the problem

I've noticed something similar with my walbro fuel pump in my standard classic wrx. Recently it's got a bit more noisey after a long run, more than 2 hours i'd say, but i'd not noticed any difference in the heat. I wasn't sure whether this noise was the pump failing or not as i've not not noticed any lack of performance or smoothness unlike when my standard pump died. After I leave it for a few hours, the noise doesnt come back. Would be interested in seeing if anyone else has noticed this? Is it a a case of "they all do that sir" or not?

The same has just happened to me............
Boy was it hot today! I've been driving a fair bit today, all of it has been off boost, mainly because I've been in a lot of traffic but also because my clutch is knackered.
When I pulled up this afternoon, there was a terrible whining from the rear of the car, never heard it until today. Must be the pump.
Annoyed as its only done around 5k miles.
Haven't experienced/noticed any rough running like the OP. Fingers crossed, it'll be okay once it's cooled down a little.

I also have a Walbro. It becomes louder after running for an extended time. Two months ago I had the car on continously for about 10 hours, the whining became really LOUD!! I think it's just a pump design thing. It went back to its usual loudness after letting the car sit overnight. Also having a low fuel level will make it sound much louder with some gurgling sounds.
I don't think it's anything to worry about.

I bought my MY97 about 3 months ago, and it often makes that whining noise generally after a drive of more than half an hour or so. The previous owner said that it has an uprated fuel pump (not sure if it's a Walboro but I assume so). No detrimental effects while driving, so I've left it be.
