Default Clutch 'Notchy'

Hey,

my o3 STi has had this niggly little problem for a while...when cold if you fully depress the clutch, around 3/4's of the travel there is a slight 'notch' to the pedal movement...

this seems to go away as the car warms up and get's hot,for instance I just went to the gym..it was notchy on the way...then 2 hours in the gym.....and on the way home,it never did it at all.

any theories..?

There is small brass bushes in the pedal and if they are worn a bit this can cause it. feels a wee bit sticky on release..

Hey,

no I haven't tried bleeding it,is bleeding it a big job? I presumed it was just the pedal linkage but when I went out to sort it...I realized it only does this when the car is running.

it seems to me it must be the clutch release bearing? or something similar? does this tally up?

Can't immediately see the mechanism by which the release bearing would cause this problem. Could be the fork fingers shifting position on the bearing I guess but this is one of those situations where actually being able to see your car would make it so much easier to troubleshoot.

Are you saying that the "notch" begins to occur the moment you start up and completely disappears the moment you switch off, absolutely no evidence at all when the car isn't running?

Hey,

yeah when I jump in the car from cold, the pedal travels smoothly...but once started...the notch is there...but it does go away once warm..

I would swear the notch feel is in the pedal mechanism...thinking about it,I don't think you'd feel it if it was something such as the clutch release bearing?

it feels just like a warm bush with play in it,but it's odd how it's onl there when engine is running.

look under at pedal there is a goldy coloured rod with a 12mm lock nut. slacken lock nut and screw rod out about 2 to 4 mm im sure this will solve your problem. I had a similar problem and lived with it for a few weeks and its bloody annoying then got told to do this. problem solved...
