i have recently bought the wife a 2004 KA , it has the 1.3 duratec engine but it is starting to be a pain to start in the morning, it keeps turning over and takes ages to fire, once its running it starts fine but when you plant your foot on the throttle it has a minor missfire, any ideas would be great as im not very good with KA`s

my girlfriend has the soft top in the same year mate. had a few niggles but nothing major. i can only suggest the usual, plugs, leads coil etc... could be lots

Hi I know the plugs were modified on the ka because they could caused a missfire.Could it be getting damp into electrics.

That's my guess changed a fair few for poor starting

Cylinder head temp sensor - located on/in the cylinder head sends signal to the ECU re mixture and timing for hot/cold starting - if faulty could be telling the ecu the engine is warm.

Apologies I was getting confused with another engine. You want a ect sensor it's down by the thermostat housing. There is 2 one is a temp sender for the gauge. There not a lot of money.

My wifes Ka had a misfire under load, turned out the coilpack had cracked (and we got lucky in the fact that it didn't fry the ecu which is apparently quite common for failing/failed coilpacks).

Indeed it is. I'd say iv personally done 4 so far this year. God knows how many last year!

I'm still sticking with ect sensor, have the codes been checked yet?

Coil pack requires hands like pinnochio, royal pain in the errrse.
Sparkplugs are ****e too, they had a tendency of snapping and removal was with an easy out.

I think that was the plug gap that was changed not the actually plug IIRC?

No. 4 lead is ****. The end breaks in the rubber. To be fair, misfire at starting is a bit unlikely to be coil, they usually fail under load, unless it's totalled! Then you would know it'd miss all the time. Have you got a mil light or anything?
