Default Coolant / Anti-Freeze Help Please

Just looking at flushing and changing the coolant in my 98 uk turbo.
I have referred to the adobe manual but this has put me off touching it until i have more information.

The manual states:
Caution! The subaru genuine coolant containing anti freeze and anti rust agents is especialy designed fo subaru engines which has an aluminium crankcase. Always use subaru genuine coolant since other coolant may cause corrosion.

I apreciate that this topic has been mentioned in an other thread but it was never clarified what actual spec coolant is required.

Is there a genuine subaru coolant or what spec do i need to use?

you use di ionised water because its pure and slows down the effect of rusting within the coolant system. normal tap water contains a lot of rubbish you would not want in your cooling system.

and dont mix 2 types of coolant this can cause a sludge to build up.... not good.

ok thanks for the replies so by the looks of the picture its 3 litres of coolant to 2.5 litres of water? the manual says 6L so 5.5 is pretty darn close

The correct dosage/strength is 50%, so add equal amounts of water and anti-freeze. Mix BEFORE adding.

You can use any anti freeze so long as it has the corrosion inhibitor and is suitable for an alloy engine. Almost all are nowadays, but ask in store, or at the motor factors.
TRY not to mix makes and DO NOT mix types.

As for de-ionised water.......once the anti-freeze is in, any corrosive tendencies of tapwater are gone. That's the job of the "corrosion inhibitor".
And UNLESS you can clean out EVERY drop of the previous coolant, you already have FAR MORE "pollutants" in your system than will come in with tapwater.

Sorry, but unless you are starting from scratch with a BRAND NEW engine, I'm afraid that DI water is a modern myth for cooling systems......and maybe not even much better in a brand spanker.

Your choice if you can be bothered.

I always say, "It's your car, you do what you want to", after advising.

you can make up the other 500ml by boiling some water in a pan the filter it and boil again then filter it and it will be nealry as good thats all I did and as mentioned above normal tap water should never be used unless treated
