Default Whistling Turbo under load

Hi, have a 2003 Bug Eye WRX which has recently been remapped, since then under load 2800 - 4200 rpm when accelerating I am getting a hi pitched scream from the (i guess) turbo... any ideas on what this is, solutions, greatly appreciated.

my td04 used to whistle a bit after going decat but if its really loud it could be a boost leak or exhaust blow somewhere.
What parts have you changed before the remap?

Could be dry turbo bearings, u need to do the basic checks first though but bear it in mind

Thanks guys, the garage that did the work had the intercooler off and checked the up-pipe, however to start with no whistling then after a couple of hareder drives it started, performance is good but not as sharp as when the remap was first complete, which sounds like a boost leak looking at what you are saying. Back the garage I guess.. Thanks again and have a good Sunday

hi mate, iv just had exactly the same problem with my classic, same symptoms, after remap and turbo swap.

It turns out the intake pipe to the turbo (from the air box that goes under the manifold) was split near the turbo, probably due to the increase in boost pressure, i need to sort out a silicone one now. hope this helps.

I think you have boost leak,i would be run off the boost until you have this sorted.

Check the intercooler pipework or inlet induction hose,if you have fitted aftermarket Boost gauge, check the connections and pipework

All, many thanks, the above link is exactly what it sounds like, off to the garage next week to have it all looked at, driving off boost.

have a look at my vid when i had a funny sould like yours.

it turned out i have a small hole in the silicone pipe work just after the air filter. and it was the noise of air getting sucked in under boost.

Sounds like boost leak. Hoses around intercooler and dump valve are common culprits. Check nothing has come off or is split. Mine made that noise once when i didn't bolt the dump valve down properly so check thats nice and flush.

Slighty split Y pipe, now on Samco's, replaced all intercooler pipes and gaskets, much much better.
