EJ257 whoes running what
Hi
i was just wondering who is running around 450BHP on a EJ257 engine and for how long lol. Without having the blocked pinned, runing forged internals.
I was weighing up my options and just wondered if spending another £1500ish to have the blocked pinned is worthwhile.

Running 477 BHP & 475 ft/lbs for the last month (1000 miles). Block isn't pinned, but engine fully forged - 11mm ARP head studs, Carrillo rods, Wossner pistons, ACL race Bearings, etc. Runs awesome - dual maps high boost 1.6 bar. If you plan taking it over 500 it's worth getting the block pinned.

I know someone who is running just under 500 on an unpinned ej257. Forged pistons and 11mm studs are a minimum requirement if you're planning to run 360 + imo. I had 2 std pistons crack at 359 bhp but others have run 400 with no issue.

I had mine pinned as part of the Finch rebuild. Just wanted to build some more strength into the block and give more hg sealing area. I'm only running at a guess 360 to 380 and thats fine for a road car for me.

More power was always on the cards, first map was just to get a bit more mileage on the engine. Ive already had the UK 6 speed fitted, my logic being 1-4 are the same as the JDM and 5 & 6 are great for m`ways and blowing evo`s off the road. My old 5 speed with my set up made it a quick car upto 120-130 ish but it ran out of steam at 145 ish so the evo`s ect blew me.
At the moment ive got it all in bits, ive got a GT35 turbo and RCM headers with a Harvey trick pipe to fit this weekend. Then im going to try and make room for the 100mm K&N traffic cone ive got, thats going to be a mission. I`m aiming to get it done for the end of this month and get simon to come fit a Simtek and remap it.
The only thing is i bought the GT35 on impluse and it is a 500-600bhp turbo, i dont know if its going to be happy around the 450ish mark. Might try it see what happens and if its no good sell it and buy a MD321T.

Im running 440/440 on a 257. Standard crank and rods, but CP forged pistons. Cosworth UHT studs and HG's.
I wouldnt even bother sticking the gt35 on if i were you! Firstly, if your asking the mapper to limit it to 450, you'll be limiting boost just as its starting to spool .... and as a result, you'll have ALOT more lag than you should expect with a properly suited turbo for cc and power.... Take all the costs envolved in fitting, setting up, and mapping the 35, and offset that against the more suitable turbo.
I chose the SC46 over the MD321, and am massively impressed with it .... on the road it feels like it spools from idle.
