Hi there guys. I have the standard 99 ICE setup except for the head unit which is Alpine 7838R. Out of the blue, one of my front speakers has started to distort really badly at higher volumes. Is this likely to be a blown speaker or a problem with my head unit ? Any thoughts please as I don't want to take my local sound shop's word for it (after all, they want to sell me some speakers !)

If the sound is garbled then yes, you have a blown unit. Swap the speaker with the one from the other door, and see if the problem moves. Its easy enough to remove the panel and check it. Whilst the panel is off, put some sound deadener in there, preferably Dynamat or that Brown Bread stuff.
