Replacing front door speakers

Hi I'm thinking about replacing the front door speakers on my 99 Impreza with some 6.5" ones I had pioneer Ts-E series in my last car and was fairly impressed with them ,however I havent had many other brands in my time to compare them to,so I'm not too sure if they are as good a speaker as I think. So can anyone recommend a decent speaker in that size for around 60-80 quid? Btw I already have a tweeter kit on the dash so I reckon I wouldnt need components,Co-axials would be fine Thanks in advance!

Go for infinity kappas or rockford fosgate components. Tight warm sounds all day long

The Pioneer is very good for the money, and the TS-E's are what started me on a slippery slope...

If you're able to meet up with people, try listening to what's in their cars. The Infinity range is good value and I like the sound that they produce.

What tweeters do you have on the dash? It may be possible to integrate a nice pair of midbass and crossovers in your budget from a matched range?

The Tweeters on the dash are infinity so maybe infinity may be the way to go then.
Although I quite like the look of those Pioneer Ts-C Series....Well Tasty )

Just as a matter of interest Chiark,would there be much of a noticable difference soundwise between a 17cm cone & a 16 cm cone ???

Typically the larger the cone the better the bass, although there are other contributing factor.
Sensitivety (sp?) is how well it handles power given, ie a more sensetive (sp?) speaker will produce more noise than a less sensetive one with same amplifier (this means less volume used less distortion coming in to play).
Frequency responce is how low and high a set of speaker will go, component are better at this because rather than trying to use one speaker for all they use speaker which are more suited for there individual task (mid bass, mids and tweeters).

You'd notice more difference between brands than between 16 and 17cm speakers. The 17 can shift more air theoretically, provided its xmax (travel) is the same or bigger, but it's marginal... Also sensitivity (efficiency) will be a factor. And fitting of the 17s may be harder

Do you already have the infinity crossover? If not, how are you running the tweeters?

The infinity midbass sound the way to go to me. I wasn't disappointed with the results, and a friend used to compete with their components - and win. OK, that was SPL , but it sounded good all the same.

The Tweeters use inline x/overs in the speaker wire....
Any idea what the biggest speaker I can fit is then???
Should I stick with a 16cm for ease of fitting ?
