I helped a friend install 'some' stereo into his MY99 UK car over the weekend, and have come up with a few things to help out any potential install.
The front speakers in the MY99 UK car are 16cm, so we had some grief fitting the 16.5cm (Kenwood component Dual Mags - Pink Cones) speakers into the car. They wouldn't into the Subaru speaker spacer.
We got round this by, buying some Corsa speaker spacers from Halfords!! (£14.99) They are designed to take either 16.5cm, or 5.25" via a collar. Hacksaw a lug off, and drilling two holes made it fit a treat!! It saved destroying the standard spacers, and the door trim fitted back perfectly!!
I was worried about trying to fit my old Boston Acoustics into my car as they are 5.25", but now I know the easiet way to do it without having to resort to making an MDF collar!!!
I had a board in my old car, that mounted between the rear seats, and the boot. It's now in my mates car, and looks top notch with the amp and crossover on display!!
I was surprised how quickly and easily the car came apart!!
That said, when the weather gets better, we're going to get the Dynamat out and start deadening the cars!
Does anyone know where I can get Dynamat cheaply, if say I want to buy 10 rolls???
