I want to change the radio ..But the space is a double height slot and is narrower than the UK one (STi V) Presumably I have to get a whole UK console to change it or does anyone make a decent replacement radio ??

Clive there are 2 options that I know of Sonys double din unit or Clarion have a new one coming, let me know if you want one I might be able to get you a good deal on one. The UK surround panel looks a bit drab compared to the metallic looking plastic you have already.

Cheers

I have a MY94 WRX which I replaced the double din unit with a normal UK single one. It fits perfectly OK! The stereo shop made a blanking plate to fill the other slot! Is the STI console that different?

David the easiest way is too remove the large plastic surround around the radio cassette, this includes removing the ashtray and cigarette at the bottom and the cupholder and 2 switches at the top to get access to the plastic lugs holding the fascia in.

The STi 5 has a different console as the air conditioning knobs are different... I am looking to get the Sony unit when I have checked that it is the same size... I dont think a standard din unit will fit in as it is too wide...

You could try a company called Sungold in Newcastle upon Tyne. They are a Sony dealer, and they do quite a lot of Sony "graded" units. These are Sony reconditioned, with 3 month guarantee. All the ones I've seen look as good as new. The model's available do vary, so give them a ring on 0191 273 5667, ask for Gary. I've had several radios and alarms from them.
