Sorry if this doesn't seem very helpful, but you'd be better trying websites like Direct Line, AA Insurance, Liverpool Vic, etc.
There are so many variables that affect the price of insurance in addition to the make and model of car, that it isn't possible to give you an approximate idea. Where you live, how many miles you do, where the car is kept overnight, your occupation, your age, previous convictions, any accidents, cover required, and so on, will all make a difference.
I realise you say that it's for a first time driver. However, if this driver is over 30, a civil servant, living in Cornwall, driving less than 5000 miles per year, garages the car overnight, has no accidents, claims or convictions, and only wants Third Party Fire and Theft, they might get cover for £300 (with an insurer who gives starter discounts to civil servants.)
On the other hand, if it's a 17 year old who lives in London, works in a casino, keeps the car on the street overnight, wrote off the driving school car while learning, got a dangerous driving conviction as a result, wants to drive 20000 miles a year and wants Comprehensive cover, they would either find that they are uninsurable, or that they wouldn't see much change out of £6000.
So, the answer to your question is "somewhere between £300 and £6000."
