InsuranceSubaru Impreza insurance can be expensive, as with any performance car insurance. But the cheapest car insurance isn't always the best. Share your quotes, and experiences.

just had a quote from diamond, the scooby is in the other halfs name so the policy is in her name with me as a named driver,She's 34 and i'm 29 the cheapest quote we got on our 53plate wrx sl for fully comp with ncb protection was £1088 for the pair of us to drive it.not too bad i thought.
Have to say I'm a bit jealous of most of these numbers. I'm currently looking for insurance for my '02 Somewhat modded WRX estate. if you think that's too easy, toss in that it's a US car being imported to the UK in early january. Still too easy? Toss in the fact that I'm currently in the US and unable to make calls to freephone numbers in britan. Then, just for fun, also toss in the fact that while I've been licensed since I was 16 (age here in the states, I'm now 32) I do not have a UK license (hard to get one before you relocate ;-)). Fun fun fun! If anyone knows of any friendly agents that deal with US imports with a small amount of mods (330 or so hp) driven for fun by drivers from the US(ideally agents that discuss such things over email, but failing that, agents who have direct numbers). I'm planing on calling A Plan's birmingham office to try to get a quote early tomorrow morning (for them anyways, to make matters worse I'm also 8 hrs behind.).
Fun stuff I tell you. At least I've already nailed down the shipper and converter to convert my US car to UK driving standards. Now just have to find a person that will insure me for a reasonable price.
Anyways, just wanted to chime in incase anyone needed a laugh. My first quote has been 2500 quid for myself and my wife (just over 2.5x what I currently pay for two cars).

I have to ask, aside from getting the $ for your mods back, is there a reason to tell insurers about mods? For example will they deny coverage when they see a different intercooler after an accident? In the states it's custom to not mention any modifications, and as long as you pass emissions testing, everyone is happy (though of course when a car is written off, you're not given anything for the mods, but you're not changing your car as an investment, it's for fun ;-))
I'm assuming in the UK if you don't mention the mods you get nailed if you make any claims?
Somebody please tell me what PPP is? I am in the process of checking out a new deal for my 99 wagon & have found RAC at £500 to be the cheapest but £360 excess which is a bit steep. I am 42,9 years + NCB,1 SP40 & live in Sheffield. I keep my car at work in a unit with the alarm linked to the cop shop & in a VERY secure yard but due to postcode its seems cheaper to insure at home parked on street! Any contacts or ideas welcomed.

Technically yes as it's something like fraud if you claim for something you haven't declared...
Companies like Liverpool Victoria will gladly take extra money from you for declaring the mods as you are obliged to do but will not pay out extra in the event of a claim (other than market value of the manfacturer's original part) They put a ticks in a number of mod boxes but then only pay out for bog standard car...
I was stung for nearly £6K on this racket a few years back
A-plan will assess mod values and according to a conversation yesteday, they have a good chance of getting the mods replaced (assuming they are of a sensible value compared to std - PPP is generally OK on top of std and wheel / others assessed etc.)
