Question is a van a car?

I've got fully comp insurance from KM, so i get to drive other cars with 3rd party insurance.

I want to borrow my brother in laws van over a weekend to pick up an engine crane, but is a van (transit) a car (as you can drive both with a B license)? I.e. would I need to sort out some day insurance, or would I be covered anyway by the 3rd party cover?

I'd call Gary, but he's so busy so I thought I'd ask here first

The doc extension only covers private cars unfortunately.

Best option would be to get added to his van policy as an additional driver for the weekend.

Most insurers will do this, and would normally charge approx £25
