You are almost identical to me except I have more ncd and a different (lower risk?) post code.

I just renewed with A-Plan for 900. I have been with them for three years though. This was for an STi4 1997.

Sounds like your postcode is making a BIG difference. This is not unheard of, try an online quote comparing your actual details with another postcode. Try SY11 2PF (my old postcode in Shropshire, nice rural area low crime) and see the difference.

You don't say which STi but I would say the £1400 quotes are probably about right.....(particularly if it's a new STi)

Sad but true

Those quotes sounded pretty typical.
My son,who is 27, for a new UK STi, got quotes ranging from over 3 grand! to the upper 800`s He settled for Elephant at £890 but when he asked them to include me as a named driver they REDUCED the figure to £845!! (The old boy`s of some use after all!)
JohnD
PS No Tracker reqd.(although it`s got one) no garage, didn`t even want a copy of the alarm installation cert.

It does seem to reduce premiums by including some named drivers..
Added me wife so she could drive it on occassions and off came £300!!!! corrr she saved me some money... what a refreshing change.
Perhap you could insure your mum as a named driver.

Try Liverpool Victoria, not asure if they do imports though..
number I believe is 0800 607607.

I don't want to run Chris Knott down as everyone seems to recommend them but as soon as you mention the word modification - however small they tend to lose interest and ramp up the quote or refuse to cover you.

Don't think Chris Knotts do Japanese imports either. European sourced cars are fine, however.....

I bet you put the missus on the policy for the same reason I did - to drive you home when you are pissed? My missus sussed it and refuses to drive it!!

Rob,

Went through same thing as you. My details are almost identical bar different postcode and an apparently 'high risk' occupation!!

Cheapest/best deal was through Randall Pace - £1200 (tracker, SDP & C, No claims protected)

Don't give up.

Mine's with Tesco's about £625. Diamond was also good (although I think that might be ladies only). Priviledge were good too. Although I must say my postcode is a lot better than yours. keep on trying!!!

Just started my plicy through Greenlight, 22, 1 yrs no claims, MY00 turbo, full scoobysport with down pipe, lowered 25mm, uprated brakes, clear indicators and side repeaters and an ITG air filter

just shy of £2000 with £550 excess.

Not bad really considering last insurance company wanted over £3500!!

JohnD,

Why exactly!

Also when we go on holiday she might share the driving, although hasn't... she hasn't driven the Scooby yet, although she did use to drive my MR2 Turbo... it used to scare her!
But the lovely thing with these cars is that they still drive nicely if you just breath on the throttle.. which is what she ended up doing in the MR2.

Just used Chris Knott. Very impressed with service and was suggested by my Suburu dealer and I had a modified exhaust.
