All,

I am trying to fit my Defi gauge controller
in the ashtray space (which I never use).
It fits in quite nicely but it could do with
a surround to finish it off.
Does anyone have any knowledge of any
modelling material that can be used to make
a surround to match?
In the past I have seen one off projects etc
made out of a kind of plastic/polystyrene
that looks really good when sprayed up etc.

Could you not get a 2nd hand ashtray.
Cut out back so you have a drop down front to hide the controler from prying eyes?

Good point - looking at the depth of the
controller i would have to cut the back out
of the ashtray slot as well as it wouldnt
fit in completely.
I will give it a bit more thought though and
see if I can see a way round doing that as
I wanted to avoid getting the hack saw out
to the surround material.

If you have any joy with this, please let me know as I want to use this space not for the Defi controller (I choose to install my one in the glove box) but for other "Devices" yet to be purchased....

I had been thinking the same thing!

I guess it doesn't need to be too stealth with a standard ash tray front, as you have a line of gauges on your dash!!

I currently have a EBC in the ashtray slot, but to get it in there, I had to remove the whole console and take out the metal rails on the side of the ashtray. (MY99 UK car)

There is enough depth if the bracket is removed.

Thanks for your suggestions. I may try that.
Was it a big job to take the whole surround
out? - I'm always a bit weary of pulling
plastic bits too hard and snapping something
off. Fitting the gauges on the top nearly
gave me a heart attack as I had to pull the
oddment fitment so hard I was convinced
something was going to go "snap"!!!!
If i could get the ashtray rails and back out
etc then that would be much better.
Will have a look tomorrow.
