How do you get the drink holder out? I tried pulling and it wouldn't come out. I've got the vents and top out already, just can't see how to get the tray out

On my '98, it's not a drink holder, it's just a cunningly designed cover for the space where the drink holder ought to be:

Once you've removed the lid of the oddment tray, Take out the base by undoing the two screws which are under covers and pulling it HARD towards the rear of the car. You may find it easier to grip if you loop string through the catch and pull on that too. With the base out, look BEHIND the cover, and there are two screws holding it to the dash.
When it's out, you need to saw off the two sides of the plastic it was screwed into, in order to get the control box to fit. I used a sharp hack saw blade out of it's frame, and then snapped the plastic off.

If I do ever want the cover back in place, it'll be held in with two small blobs of silicone from behind: invisible from the front.
