Anyone changed their gear gator

Has anyone changed from the nasty rubber gear gator to a leather one like they have on ebay? am thinking of doing this but was wondering how the new one is attached?

Classic? Your supposed to fit it over the rubber boot, but you dont have to.

The way to do it is, difficult to explain, take gear knob off. Remove plastic gearstick/center console bit. The rubber boot is held underneath by a number of "prongs", unhook and throw it in the bin

The leather one fits much the same way, although to get it to not drop the gear stick, I folded it in on itself and used a cable tie to secure it.

That may or not make sense, so any questions feel free to ask.
