Question

Just stuck a boost gauge (autometer) in but I think somethings wrong. At idle it sits about -20 but on the go I can't get it to go over about 5 psi, that was at over 4k revs in 4th gear with WOT before I ran out of road !!

Can anyone give me any pointers as to how it should read as I go up the rev range ?? It's a MY96

All the piping looks ok but I guess I must have a leak somewhere, I've T-eed off the centre of the 3 pipes.

Any thoughts ??

at idle your running vacuum so that bit sounds ok, do you know roughly what boost your car is supposed to be running ? if its more than 5psi then could you borrow a gauge of someone just to test that you havent got a leak or a weak actuator ? cheers nomad

something you could try to get a true reading , accelerate up to third and put your left foot gently on the brake pedal and squeeze whilst still accelerating, this will put your engine under load without having to go too fast, as you put your engine under load then read the gauge, this is your true reading. cheers nomad

Sasim > those thin pipes can be squashed quite easily. I assume you got a new one as a removed kink will still cause some minor obstruction to the gauge. Always wise to put a small loop in the 'circuit' somewhere aswell

Yep I got a new bit of pipe, well actually 30 metres worth It's quite a bit softer than the original pipe so won't kink so easily.

Stuart

p.s. if anyone needs pipe you know who to ask !!

Hmmm, that's way too low a vacuum for idle, I'm on about -10 cruising along at 75! Maybe there's a blockage in the line, does it also read low on boost? If the boost reading is fine then it might be a faulty gauge. Could be worth checking it with someone elses gauge in the pipeline, as suggested above, or send it back to get checked over.
