purchased morettes for my bug eye second hand. fitted fine but i dont have fullbeam or side lights. all wiring was into connectors pre fitted, the red wire to the live on the battery and the brown is connected to the ground on the car.
any help would be grateful.

On bugeyes etc, the lights work so that there is a common feed, with a switched earth.

Your relay needs triggering, but you have to find out which wirefeeding the old headlights is live ONLY WHEN MAIN BEAMS ARE ON, and connect that wire to relay terminal 85, with relay terminal 86 to earth too.

I assume you have a fuse, either on the relay, or before it, in the wire from the battery? Have you checked that said fuse is OK too?
