Lewis I always use 10/60 fully synthetic in all the Subarus I have owned summer and winter and never ever had any problems.My preferred oil is LUCAS 10/60.Must also add have never disconnected the crankshaft sensor either as after an oil change there is sufficient oil left on bearings to lubricate until pressure is up which if oil pump is good is almost immediately.Far to many budding motor mechanics on this site.if going by the amount of engines going wrong by these members it would make you wonder if buying an Impreza is such a good idea.
