Default This weekends mod.

Well been meaning to do this for ages but just never got round to it until now, made a template up and added a nice STI logo to the top mount, really pleased with the result and relativley easy to do.

Excuse the quality of the pic, covered carpark last night was the only chance I had to take a pic from mobile!

Hi guys just 2000 miles into scooby ownership with a new wr blue impreza WRXS just wanting to do a couple of suttle mods so just ordered some rally armour flaps and considering a panel filter replacement what do you guys reccomend ?

Yes that's me John, hope your keeping well? Really happy with the hatch, but like you still have the classic & can't see us ever selling it, have to confess the hatch is a better car to live with on a daily basis

Wellcome to the modern thinking Subaru owners section

Yes I still have the classic and have only done 400 miles with it in 3 months and that included 200 miles to the NBO and 100 mles to AS Performance for a service

fetch it out every week and polish its exhaust then back in the carpetted garage

Love the new shape hatch looks fantastic and easy to live with too

Cheers guys. Paint was just some I had laying around the garage, it was for mechanical items like diffs, gearboxes etc so is suitable for metal, if you want the exact name let me know and i'll dig it out, i would imagine any metal paint would be ok though.

You can just about see it through the scoop if you look for it, probably not that in your face due to the slimmer scoop.

If you do this though try your best to spray as vertical as you can otherwise the paint starts to seep through the fins.

Default Brakes, need more brakes

Right then peeps,

Having thrown the car around a few of tracks now (including the Ring) it is time to address some of my (percieved) short comings.

Need more power - will be going for the PPP as it protects the warranty and keeps the car quite quiet (a must for any Motorsport Vision track). Down side is cost and subsequent lack of bang per buck. I hear the exhaust system is not the best designed bit of kit in the world either.

Need more retardation -The brakes go spongey and start to whilt after 3 laps of the Ring. Am thinking I need braided hoses, and better pads and Dot 5.1 fluid. The calipers seem OK to me so will avoid doing a BBK upgrade for now. Anyone been down the hoses/fluid/pad route yet? If so what do you reckon?

Need more control -happily this was sorted with the Litchfield Handling kit

Need to be able to find the mirror fold switch in the dark - no solution as yet

Big respect to you mate for using the car as it was intended, the way I use mine most of the time for getting around day to day it may as well be a Ford Mondeo, it get's a good thrash atleast once a week though

Need more power I can recommend the Milltek full turbo back system, a K&N panel filter and a re-map by any of the following: Pat (07803 906141), Simon (07912 872581), Andy Forrest (01875 811811) or Richard Bulmer (0870 3502349). This will give you a nice reliable 340-350bhp or more if you want it (i.e. this is better than the PPP in my opinion).

The Milltek will be quiet enough for day to day use and to meet the noise regs but will give enough flow to get the power you want (and more). I know there are loads of decent exhaust systems about now for the hatch STI, but I have only seen/used the Milltek.

Keep your std. exhuast and if anything goes wrong fit it back on (and get the mapper to drop the standard map back on) before you take it back to the dealer

Need more retardation Agree with you here, I find the std brakes go spongy to quickly. I tried the hoses, fluid and pad change route and to be honest it's a bit better, but not that much better. I am currently saving my pennies for a decent set of 6 pots on 355 discs (AP current favorites).

Need more control I have already posted on this thread about my war with the standard handling. Like you, I found that you can't go wrong with Ian's recommendations or services. The AST's are very good...

Need to be able to find the mirror fold switch in the dark - LOL know that feeling, I bought a small LED torch for my keyring to start with, but after a while it became second nature and I just kinda know where it is now...for a while I was considering getting them wired in with the ignition on/off switch to make them fold in and out automaticaly, you could try that mate

There's a guys on here who makes a relay for this for £21 - but he's not done it yet for the 08. He says he's working on it so I've got my eyes on the thread...

Electric folding mirrors? Want them automated?

For anyone looking to change the standard head unit, after being told by many professional installers that it is not possible to get the steering controls to work, I have finally found an adapter that works!

I used an adapter from InCarTec, which is a wiring adapter and steering wheel control unit in one. The part number is 29-672, and I needed a short patch lead for the Kenwood that I was fitting.

Many retailers will source the lead I am sure, but I used Audio Car (0208 508 0154), and they were very helpful and efficient, and certainly would not hesitate to recommend them.

I hope that this helps someone, now for the front speaker replacement project!

Has anyone tried the Litchfield handling upgrade pack without the AST's. He does the type 20 kit as a package of Whiteline parts that looks pretty reasonable. I don't think I could sneak the AST's past the missus as the 08 is her daily drive.

I ran the same sort of handling pack; whiteline anti-lift kit (same as the powerflex ALK, just not as well made), steering rack bushes, rear ARB (with braces) and rear subframe bushes with the standard suspension for a while and with the new alignment it made a big improvement over the standard set-up. I think the Type 20/25 pack also includes a front strut brace. The main 'problem area' on the standard car seems to be the rear end, the std. subframe bushes are very soft which allows the whole rear end to move about a bit too much...before I did mine you could jiggle the rear wheels about (side to side) by hand when the car was up on the ramps! Not anymore...

With regard to your missus the above handling mods did not change the day to day ride quality, just gave less body roll and more control in the corners, the rear end feels more balanced and planted afterwards, definetly worth doing mate

+1 the litcho handling pack is the best thing I've had done. The rear end never even flinches now, whereas before it tended to leap about / up and down from time to time even on straight road sections at speed.

Great thing is the wife thinks I'm a better driver now, thanks to Iains team

Well, last weekend I fitted my clear rear fog, its evened up the rear just how I hoped and think the lights look pretty ok now, well on a silver car they do.

More importantly my RallyArmors finally arraived, ordered them months ago but been waiting for my mate to come over from the states so I avoided the postage and tax which was a joke!!!

Anyway, piece of cake to fit and really pleased with them, first front took about 40 minutes to fit and the other side only 20 once you knew what went where and how to pull the wing assembly off along with the side skirt, heart stopping moment on the first one I can tell you!

Rears were even easier, 2 clips and 2 screws and just a small hole to drill in the inner arch and done, took me longer to take the rear wheel off and make sure they were level.

I can highly recommend them, I have seen some other pics of these and they look like they stick out a fair bit and I was quite concerned, in the flesh though they are fine, for anyone who has had Kaylan flaps in the past thay are pretty much the same.

Anyway, couple of pics after fitting today and why the camera was out took a few updates ones of the whole car.

Cars looks great Arron, I know what your saying about fitting the front flaps lol

Have you fitted lowering springs? It looks lower than standard

Yeah, pulling that side bit off under the STI badge and then ripping the skirt away I was conviced I'd have cracked paint, I'll give Subaru a thumbs up on that one though about the quality of their paint shop!

As for springs, no as far as I am aware they are standard, I know what you are saying though, I was going to fit some Prodrive springs but from what I have seen they will drop it to where mine is at the moment so I had asked myself that very question. Had a quick look at the rears today and from what I can see they are standard!

Grill, really happy with that, especially now the zun badge has gone!!

Mental note - Must stop spending!

ok guys, ive been looking at the pics of your cars (They all look amazing!) but i noticed most of the cars have 235/45 r18 tyres. i have prodrive gt1s but ive got 235/35 r18. Have i got the wrong size tyres? or does it not matter? Thanks.

245/40/18 is the size Subaru state should be on the 8.5 x 18s. Mine are Falken and I think they are too thin, already damaged the rim as the tyre tappers in. Looking to go for 265/35/18 next as it keeps the same rolling radius as the original 235/45/17.

the RB320 comes with 235/40/18 P Zero Nero as standard which is the same wheel/tyre setup as i run?
