Cool MY99 JDM Scoobs

Hi guys.

Not posted since buying the car a couple of months ago so thought I'd best get a couple of pics up as I've already started making my mark on the old gal.

Bought it from Chris off here so some will recognise it. As far as looks on the on the outside go, she hasn't changed other than fixing the slightly rusty rear drivers arch and giving it a damn good polish.

The car came with an open mouth sports cat down pipe, but due to the cells being shot I knocked out the internals and made it a straight through lol. Although, due to it being 3" down pipe leading to a 2.5" straight through system, the sound is just right for me, not too loud but still sounds evil.

Bought a couple of other toys for it as well. Bought and fitted a Apexi filter with cold feed, removed the rubber strip under the bonnet edge and raised the bonnet stops slightly allowing some extra nice cool air to pass through the engine bay. Ordered the side vent scoop to suck some more air in, and just need to sort one of these custom heat shields I've seen on here and I'll be happy about the air intake temp.

Will be hopefully fitting the mid/high level spoiler like the one found on the RB5. but hard to find so will just have to be patient.

I also have a brand new forge dump valve ready to fit but due to over fueling and running issues these sometimes have, I'm not fitting it until it goes for it's live map in March and I'll fit it just before she goes on the rollers to ensure safe running.

So for the map, the list will be:-

- Walbro 255 fuel pump.
- Straight through exhaust system from turbo back.
- Larger top mount inter cooler.
- VF29 turbo (not the vf28 that was originally thought to be fitted until I checked the model number on the little plate on the turbo).
- Apexi air filter.
- Forge dump valve or BOV
- Will have 2 cold feeds by the time the map happens, the vent scoop on the bonnet and the bumper feed.

Other mods for better acceleration include:-

- Exeddy triple plate clutch.
- Graham Goode short shift.

Handling mods:-

- STi shocks.
- Tein springs.
- 17" light weight Rota wheels.
- Toyo T1R tyres.

She's running very well with ok numbers at the moment (I think lol, not too clued up on the JDM specs) but desperately needs the map to get the best from the mods. Hoping for at least 320bhp with the above mods so 40bhp isn't too much to ask for I don't think lol.

And here's a couple of shot from yesterday when a few blue clouds appeared in the sky and the sun came out to play:-

The vf29 is the correct turbo for your car, the sti came with the vf28.

It's similar in size to the 28 but sleeve bearing I think, capable of 320bhp so you will be ok there

Everything is on there already apart from the dumpvalve and is running well and all I want to do is make it run a bit better by having it live mapped rather than chipped/re-mapped. Not adding the dumpvalve until they can live map it with it on so the fueling is right. I want it done properly so if I need the solonoid then so be it

Did the JDM WRX have VF turbos then?

I thought they had the TD04 like the UK cars?

My MY00 Type RA had a VF29.

Funnily enough, another customer I got speaking to at Scoobybits said it wasn't standard but didn't dispute as I couldn't say.

Cheers Jay.

I must admit, now that the air filter has been fitted for a few days, I'm starting to love the sound that it makes with the recirc valve lol. I remember my old mans C70 T5 used to do it just by fitting a filter. It's also alot different sound to the chavvy tsssst sound you get from a normal valve. Definatly made the right choice going for a recirc rather than an atmospheric type valve.

Anyone else notice this when they fitted a filter?

Small update:

Managed to get myself a spoiler for next to nothing, same as the one in this pic...

Already started sanding it down yesterday and got the first coat of primer on. Adding second coat today, wet flat then hopefully spraying it satin black today to match the side skirts and rear trims. This will be the same when I get the splitter sorted and also the wheels will be anthracite or satin to match.

Will post some pics later today or tomorrow when it's fitted Quite happy with this spoiler tbh. The high level spoiler is very nice and suits Scoobies, but I find they look better on the new age scoobies as the classic look better with a mid or low level, or even without one at all lol. So all good.

Are they easy to fit? I've bought some tiger seal for when it goes on.

Yay. New spoiler sprayed and fitted. Set myself up in the loft with heaters and lights and it dried pretty quick tbh so fitted while it was still light lol.

Lost a bolt inside the boot lid for about half an hour taking the old one off but got it out in the end lol. Can't seem to upload the before and during shots for some reason but the completed and fitted shot uploaded fine so here they are. Considering I used a spray can from Halfrauds, i'm very pleased with the finished coat. No shiney bits here and there lol.

And here it is fitted. All I need to do is respray the black bit above the rear passanger door as the black paint has worn away and has gone chrome lol, oh and give it a good wash again.

Not bad considering the spoiler cost me a tenner and the can of paint was £4:50, happy days!

Definatly wont be getting rid of the original spoiler, just incase But definatly happy with this new one. I like that it follows the shape of the Impreza very well and doesn't look over the top either. I could have gone bigger or even gone for the RB5/Prodrive spoiler but it isn't an RB5 so decided against and went for this one. The fact it only cost a tenner helped lol.

And yes mate, I mentioned the fuel pump in the first post

Gonna give it another quick wash today and maybe get some pics from down Fistral Beach.

If anyone from Cornwall spots this and fancies meeting up, let me know
