Also, can you tell me when it would be and for how long? Stef has pointed out it might not be very convenient for us if it's while her parents are here.

Hey Thug - sorry for not getting back to you 'bout the violin people. No can do. They're all too nervous to help out - guess they haven't been playing for a while.

How could it pass tech? Nobody noticed that the lugnuts weren't tightened? Was the guy so much in a rush that he forgot to tighten down the lugnuts? It's funny and sad all at the same time.

So Petter - you're like 12600 ft (very fringe for ADSL), but that means nothing if they put your ADSL to a SAC which would be much closer. Still trying to find out more info - at what speed would you consider going to Cable?

Tech could be at fault as well as the driver/owner - I wouldn't think the lug nuts were bad but it could also be over-tightened to a point where it's stripped already. Expensive repair since there could be so much hidden damages

Nerco, a while back you posted about the newsgroup service you were using. Are you still using them, and are you happy with the service?

BTW, can you search this particular thread? I tried the overall search and it wasn't overly helpful.

Is this local? Tech for autox has degenerated to the point where you're not supposed to check most things because if tech "inspects" the car and something goes wrong people will try to hold them liable. I think there's a list of 4 things tech still does. Look at the tires to check for cords showing, check the helmet is up to spec, check the harness if there is one. Maybe they still check the battery, but they don't "shake the wheels" anymore and I don't think they check the steering wheel or brake pedal anymore either. Definitely no more checking the throttle return spring...

Basically, from a legal standpoint it's better to allow unsafe cars on the course so when anything happens it's clearly the driver's responsibility.

No, I think the event was held in the states.

Man, that sucks that people hold others responsible for keeping themselves safe. I guess we can thank our sue-happy westernized culture for that. Someone pull me out of teaching when a student sues ME for failing them in a course where they didn't do anything at all.

Litigate, litigate, and litigate and I maybe spelling it wrong

They should just make everybody sign a waiver so the tech can do their job without fearing of getting sued - I thought the waiver would have covered it off so that the tech is doing the best he can but it's still the driver's responsibility if anything happens

I think waivers don't really work. Honestly, with a good lawer, I think a signature is completely meaningless.

How would I know if they put my ADSL to a SAC? They did say I'm eligible for the "enchanced". I'm looking at shaw high speed which is 5Mbps down, 512kbps up. I guess the equivalent (pricewise) is the telus enhanced ADSL.

I use Giganews. For the articles, really. Been a happy customer for quite a few years now.

Search ... try Google?

A friend of a friend is moving back to Vancouver from California and is looking for work. Based on his resume it looks like he's heavy towards the unix side. Looks like he's got the major technologies covered with C/C++, MySQL, Oracle, PHP, HTML, JSP, XML, Apache etc. (In other words, of no use to a MS shop like us. )

display results by post, and possibly increase the result size - and browsing around the said post.

Petter: I think Enhanced ADSL means ADSL 2+ which is most likely a SAC. The new plans are Consumer 3.0M and 6.0M. I will check further - don't really have the contact to see if the ADSL will go to a SAC or not but I suspect it will be and there are tools to tell how much bandwidth you can get theoratically from the SAC even though your wiring hasn't changed over yet

Send him to mda if he wants to do systems engineering and software evelopment stuff. I'd imagine he'd start off with some development and once ppl see he's capable, he can quickly pick up stuff and do more engineering stuff.

found it! this is quite the hidden location for the Hi-HO thread....!

Penphoe: I'll ask KY what the things are... I don't recall him mentioning anything to me about the contents...

Petter: You're very welcome! Can't wait to see when things are all in place and we'll come paaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrty!

Cats: so you're in TW and the cat is in TO... wow, he's going to be so scared being on that plane in cargo! poor thing... I think the cats will do fine! Remember BJF? BB..JJ..Feix? They're alright now, BB even sleeps in Felix's bed and uses his litter box, while JJ drinks Felix's water. I'm not sure if Felix approved it though...

autoX: there was a lot of controversy on tech and it's still in the works. but for now, we do tech once in the morning before registration. this includes (but not limited to) shaking all four of your tires, steering wheel, brake, clutch, shifter, loose items, leaks, battery, etc...

Bruno, to be honest I've got no idea. I'm still in Taiwan and I had an interview and a written exam yesterday. If I get the job the cat might not be at your place long (or at all). BUT if I don't get a job soon, then the cat might stay for a bit longer.

When will Stef's parents be here?

So I went karting again today. I'm not sure what my times are, but the guy was going to drag out the race cars for me to drive when it started sprinking. Plus the track was kinda green from all the rain...

I've never been so excited by 28 whooping horses. Damn.

Oh, and on the cat thing...

I'm assuming (by now) that my cat does fine with other cats. My buddy also took in another friend's 2 cats, and I'm not sure if he took in the M6 buddy's 2 cats a while back. If he did then he would have 5 cats LOL. Anyways, it's down to 3 now and I haven't heard him complain about cat fights.

Send his resume over to me if he doesn't mind doing java. We're looking for some people. If he does C++, and has a CS degree, I'm sure he'll pick up java., and all of the rest of the technologies, we are actually using.

Actually, Java is one of the main things on his resume. I'm not sure how I missed posting it here. I've forwarded his resume to you.

Her parents will be here towards the end of July.

Also, we're having some problems with Simba disturbing our sleep and Stef has to get up early for work, so I'm not sure if another cat would only make things worse. Plus, I'm still worried about how Simba would react. He's pretty moody lately and when he's pissed off he doesn't hold back.

I think Stef working full time has been hard on Simba and I see another cat going one of 2 ways... Simba is happier because he has a playmate, or Simba is pissed because he feels the other cat is competing for attention.
