Hey, any of you guys ever dealt with phone unlocking. I got Stef onto a retention plan and got a new phone (Nokia 6300) too. I'd like to use it on my Rogers plan because she already has a fairly new phone. It's currently locked to Fido though. I thought I found someone to unlock it (for $40) but turns out he doesn't have a code for my serial number. These newer Nokia phones are apparently a PITA to unlock.
She should just use that one and you can use whatever she has currently if the Nokia's are hard to unlock. I'm suprised though that you and Stef aren't in a couple's plan. It's cheaper.
I don't know what suspension or tires she has on her, but I think you will have lots of fun with it! What class would she be running in anyway?
No idea. I'm planning to get involved in AutoX next year. Wondering if it's worth running the pissan or just run the subie and get rid of the pissan. I'm just out for fun (initially) as well, but want a platform that has potential.
Car has:
Stock Euro ver. Springs (apprently 20% stiffer than stock, same height)
KYB Struts
exhaust + intake
Adjustable Rear sway bars.
Because of the springs (not stock in North America), the intake, and rear swaybar, that puts you in ST*..
Now to determine if its STS, STX (2.0L or above Turbo), or STU (doubtful, that's where the 2.5L WRX's belong), is your turbo motor less than 2.0L of displacement? Also, did you end up putting that VLSD in?
Hi HO from Shimokitazawa, Tokyo. I've wanted to check this area out for some time. It's kind of like a slightly bohemian (by Japanese standards) version of Shibuya -- a little town with narrow streets and student-budget boutiques and cafes and restaurants in the middle of affluent suburban southern Tokyo. Sipping an espresso and enjoying a perfectly sunny fall afternoon on the terrace of a Segafredo Zanetti cafe while people walk by in their fall fashions. Life is good.
Just a data point, I had my Vodafone Japan (Sony Ericsson) phone unlocked at the Richmond Night Market in seconds and for $15, but that's a known easy target. Dunno about the newer Nokias, though..
You can pick up an unlocked Moto F3 for $39 US... check techbargains.com...

So I've got the cover art working. It's a slow download because it's a network drive - the program has to analyze/hash the file, but at least it works.

She likes her bulky flip phone and I like the sleek bar phone. I'm not sure a couples plan would be cheaper. We're both on retention plans (Rogers and Fido respectively).
Ganesh is on a couples plan and pays about as much as we do combined for a much more basic plan. Also, Stef had a lot of Fido $$$ which we used towards the new phone.
Anyhow, it sounds like a cable unlock should be doable. I think the issue is that Fido/Nokia won't give out the codes for phones that have been obtained through Fido rewards so the "remote unlockers" which pay for the codes from Fido/Nokia don't have access.
I think worst case I can craigslist it for more than we spent in Fido $$$.
So I finally got to meet someone important since coming to the job, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann. Let's just say I was expecting to meet Papa Joe and I met some German-born Italian-raised playboy lookalike. Things sure come to me fast in this job.
And to update, my coworker came back from the Impreza trip and said the boxer sound is gone, as is the huge turbo lag (and on the flipside, the big kick at 3000rpm).

1.8L Turbo. No, I didn't end up putting a VLSD in. It costs as much as the car!!!!
joeblow, I'll land in japan on 2-dec and take off on 7-dec. so I'm in and out really fast. Most likely won't get a chance to leave the Tokyo area. Got any directions to the subaru plant, or is that a PITA to get out to without a car?

Hi HO. So -S-, you get a ride in any Lambos too?
Thanks to cachan for the Crappy Tiredland jack set! Woot! I can now grap my own tireds too!
Speaking of which, what kind of Synth Esso oil did you grap from Walmart again? XD-3? Gold lable right? I saw some 4L jugs of 0W40, but no 5W30 or 10W30.

Yeah, the Synth XD-3 only comes in 0W30 or 0W40. Walmart never has the 0W30 in stock, but I'm using the 0W40 right now and I like it a lot. Also you can't beat the price for decent synthetic oil.
Just spent the past 2 hours bleeding the brakes on the Legacy. It seems as tho the braking is still the same.. spongy on the first press on it, and then its a bit firmer after that. Drove a few seconds, the sponginess will come back again on the first press.
Duyring the bleeding, when I got to the last wheel, I mistakenly let the brake fluid reservoir run dry. After I refilled it, all sorts of air bubbles and fizz came out on that corner.. Just to be sure the others are ok, I bled the FL (1st wheel) again, but there were no air bubbles of any kind. That's the only thing I can imagine I did wrong, but I assume the other 2 should still be ok..
Yeah, you and all the other Japanese guys. Anyway. Alright, thanks for letting me know the dates. Ideally, I'd have a business trip to Tokyo the week before, and take some days off the next week (the 2nd is a Sunday) ... we'll see if that works out. If not, it's $300 roundtrip for me to go to Tokyo but $200 for you to get an unlimited ride Japan Rail pass for an entire week, something to consider. I'd be willing to take some days off and travel to Tokyo to see you though, it's worth it IMHO.
Location is in Ota City, Gunma Prefecture. I'm showing 43 minutes train time from Komagome station in Tokyo via shinkansen. They've got two types of tours. If you can get a group of 10 or more people together and apply at least a month in advance, you get the full body stamping plant tour and interior assembly line tour. Weekdays only.
The other type is targeted towards individual visitors and offered on Saturdays. You get into the visitor centre but factory tour depends on production status and is not guaranteed -- in any case interior assembly only.
Hmm maybe I can get a group of 10 people to go, that's a definite possibility. Might need some of the rest of you dubs to fill out the ranks though!

Yeah, all I've heard are some vague airplane dates, despite sending her lots of activity suggestions and daily reminders that things need to be planned in advance in Japan. No idea what kind of arrangements she needs, whether I'm supposed to take days off work, or if she's planning to travel around the country. And she's supposed to arrive the day after tomorrow or something? With things this last minute I'm not sure there's much I can do to help any more. In any case I'm going to try to get a booking at Suzuka for the weekend (since she's flying into Nagoya), but it might be too late already...

So my car is in the shop. My loaner vehicle is a beater MPV with over 180k km on the odo. First time I've driven an auto with the shifter on the steering column. Took me a moment to figure out how to put it in gear.
The flights are set. It's just what to do when I'm there that's not...
Still arriving Oct 24th, 20:05 in Nagoya. Then going to find my way to your place from the airport.
I'll spend Thursday and Friday looking around, hopefully with Helen
I'll follow you around on Saturday and Sunday.
Go to Osaka to find my cousin Sunday evening.
Tokyo Autoshow on Monday or Tuesday.
Leave Wednesday.
That's how it's looking right now, still trying to figure out the transport, it's a crazy system, so confusing...
Hey Joe, thanks for offering Joanne a place to stay in Japan. Unfortunately the planning part is a bit out of my control (I have no idea what is where, etc), so hopefully she has it sorted out by the time she gets there.
Bruno, are you still using the Can. Tire Cash Advantage card? I just got my new one and I went on the website to see if they have the one that offers 3%(platinum?) but I don't see it anywhere.

No, I don't use it anymore. I just got a new one too but I should cancel it. My current card of choice is this:

Citi Driver's Edge Platinum MasterCard offers 2% cash rebates toward your next new or used vehicle up to $5,000. Because getting something back is a big part of being responsible with your money. And what you get back is significant savings on any and we really mean any new or used vehicle purchased in Canada. Any car, truck, motorcycle, motorhome, or ATV. Any model! Plus, your Citi Driver's Edge Platinum MasterCard gives you a host of great benefits. Just see below.
Damn, I just noticed is says "vehicle purchased in Canada". The money you collect lasts 5 years though.
So you think all this consumer spending in states instead of locally going to hurt us in the long run? I just ordered my fog lamp housing yesterday from the states as I don't feel like to paying a 100% premium to support Canadian industry which might not be in fact Canadian after all.
The stuff that's been on sale at bestbuy and FS has been the same price for USD and CND. ACtually, there was a HD DVD which was $50 cheaper in Canada than the US. Walmart also slashed prices recently I heard. There'll always be stuff cheaper down south though.
Considering shipping costs on small stuff, it's cheaper to buy in Canada.
