Thug: I guess I would need to get hold of you some how. BTW, how's mileage on your 2.0T? By driving like a grandma I manage to get damn close to 10L/100Km
I think you're going to end up borrowing Darren's now? Otherwise, I'm in Richmond from around 9:00-5:00 weekdays. I know you go to work fairly late some days so you could stop by my office. I actually get in a bit before 9:00 most days and could come in even earlier if it would help. Actually, I go right by Metrotown (on skytrain) every night around 6pm or so, which would be another option.
The mileage on the 2.0T isn't as good as I'd hoped. Pretty much the same as my TS was. I don't think I can get 10L/100Km commuting to and from work, but by watching the fuel consumption I can keep it under 12l/100Km. I think the fact that my commute is shorter hurts. I probably have more hills to deal with too. Actually, I noticed what really kills it is being in downtown traffic the last 3-5 blocks before I get home. If I lived at Main & Terminal I'd probably use 1L/100Km less.
Thug - no highway at all for you to get to work? That might be why - I figure with more highways the 2.0T could have done below 10L/100K. Darren hasn't responded yet so I don't know if I can pick it up from him today or tomorrow. Trying to get it for Wednesday night so that I can work on the drive so hopefully Darren will get around to it
Nope, my route to work had me drive down Carall, onto Pacific which turns into Quebec, then left on 2nd which turns into Great Northern Way, right onto Clark, which becomes Knight, across the Knight Street bridge, left on Westminster Highway, left on 6 Road, left on Wireless way. The stretch from the Knight Street Bridge to Westminster Highway is highway type driving and I could get greate mileage but it is such a short part of the drive. I can litterally coast 1/3 of it between coming downhill of the bridge and again towards the light at Westminister Highway. The coasting down approaching the light seemed to annoy some people. Guess they like to speed towards it and have to brake rather than rolling up to it, often just in time for it to turn green.
On the way back, it was basically once I got to Quebec and Terminal that my mileage really dropped off because I'd always get stuck at a few lights. Never really figured out if it would be better to take main and turn left onto Keefer. Possibly less traffic, but more lights and a left turn on Main with no left turn signal.
Sounds like I just need to get used to the lower mileage that comes from the higher power and lower compression. I will see how my normal driving fares - I drive highways for almost 20Km one way and last normal tank was like 11.5L/100Km.
I will phone 'phoe after work to confirm the drive enclosure - thanks Thug for the offer though

W00T! The AC in my classroom IS working!!! Apparently it's always been working. It was always hot in my room because the little switch thingey was on "HEAT" not "COOL".
When they redid the HVAC system nobody told me anything. I just happened to look closely at it the other day and noticed it was set all the way to the right. Now it's all the way to the left!
Looks like I might have to give the freezer trick a try in my last ditch effort to rescue the drive - the data doesn't worth the cost for data recovery service which runs in the thousands, even at hundreds I have trouble going to them
Hard to find an identical drive given that it was made in 2000. Maxtor 120G EIDE. Haven't look at how much effort it would take to yank the whole controller board out though

I was bored and played with a newer WD drive. The controler board was simply screwed on with a few torx screws and had a ribbon connector to the drive motor. The contacts to some of the rest of the internals were just pressed against the board when it was screwed on.
In all, it was much simpler than I thought it would be, but I never checked how older drives were.
