We're proud to release the latest update to the ScoobyNet layout.
Some very important points have been listed below which, I hope, will cover many of the standard negative points we tend to see whever there is any kind of change :D.
PLEASE READ THEM BEFORE POSTING.
This new format gives us a platform to release some really exciting new features over the coming months, and I am absolutely positive you're going to love them.
Comments, questions, requests, all welcome :)
Regards
Simon

I DON'T LIKE IT BECAUSE....
This is only the first initial release... If there is something you don't like about the layout, feel free to politely tell us about it, but any ranting / aggressive posts will receive infractions, or be ignored. We WANT to hear from you about it, so while we are sure that most will be delighted with the layout, there are always those who hate ANYTHING new, and those who find fault in everything. Aside from these people, we also want to hear about any genuine problems / disappointments with the layout, and I promise we'll take everything into consideration / discuss it.
WHY?
This new layout is to facilitate a whole host of exciting new features that are planned to come online over the next few months. In addition to these feature, the following is a list of important reasons for the new layout.
Full Screen featureAs we promised we would, we have now included a proper, fully functional, Full Width feature, so you are not limited to the fixed width layout, and the slightly dodgy, full width layout we cobbled together. Check it out, to see which you prefer (check out your user control panel options).
Make better use of spaceWe have moved the banner advert out of the navigation bar and into the top section, we've reduced the size of the top section, to get the content higher up the page, and have reduced the height of the nav bar section for the same reason.
Commercial / Revenue
With these changes, we have managed to squeeze in a banner advert on the right hand side. I truly hope this won't be a problem for people, but, we are planning to introduce a facility to switch these off for paying members.
The banner advert on the right
Now I know some of your are going to hate this banner advert, but I would just say three things :
PLEASE, give it a try. It is a content targeted banner advert, which means it will be relevant to the thing you're looking at, so it really might be of interest.
It isn't the end of the world is it? I would really ask you to think to yourself "This kind of revenue is vital to ScoobyNet's survival, and in all honesty, it really doesn't do anyone any harm". I would really appreciate your support with this, so we can see how it goes. It's only a trial, and may be removed if the benefit isn't strong anyway.
We are looking at introducing a feature for paying members to be able to switch these banners off, should they wish. Although I would strongly advise people to keep them in view.
WE'RE ON YOUR SIDE
If you're thinking "this is a disgrace, I hate it" then something is seriously wrong. We're trying to do the best for everyone. So please be sensible in your approach to this, by all means talk to us, in a tone which signifies that you appreciate that we're doing our best here, and we'll engage with you and make changes as appropriate. As stated above. If you rant and abuse, we'll just ignore you.
EVERYTHING IS OVER TO THE LEFT
The reason for this, is that we're making most use of hte screen area now for people running 1024x768, which is still the most popular resolution. If, however, you don't like this :
1) Go to your control panel and select the full width option.
2) We are planning to introduce a centered option anyway.
No matter what. I just can't live with it.
[edit. The old style of scoobynet has now been closed. There were a total of 12 users using it, and of those, only 5 have been logged in within the last 3 days. Apologies to those few, but we can't justify the complications of running a duplicate style for such a small number of people.]
