Give me strength
As long as you accept that the price for being able to 'defend ourselves' will be lots of dead people, most of whom will not be the bad guys.

Possibly because it's one extreme to the other?

What about some middle ground?

Maybe, but I'm not sure what that would involve

To be fair the States is not a great example, their problems stem more from the appalling education system than they do from gun ownership levels

Wow what a story, I think he would've been within his rights to do a lot worse.I'm sure he'll get karma when he's a prison, hopefully by a very big boy and his very big "weapon" OUCHY!!!

Nope I'd say what he was doing is completely undefencible and the dad was entirely right to do what he did. The fundamental difference here is that once the kid was unconscious on the floor the father walked away and phoned the police. That's the important bit, no chasing him down the road or crap like that (although thats a different thread).

I like how you've taken my comments out of context, well done.

Unfortunately criminals can travel to where ever they like so where one lives has no bearing on the subject, I have a very big dog that will take care of any would be intruders, but if they should happen to get by him then i'd say i'm well within my rights to defend myself and family by any means necessary using what ever happens to be lying about my house close to hand.

If someone forcibly enters my property and compromises the sanctity and safety of me and my family,s private space they will be met with extreme violence, end of. unless its the milkman or the postie of course actually scratch that, if my postie or milkman forcibly entered my property they would get it as well

And you would be quite within your rights to do so. I'm not suggesting otherwise.

My issue is with guns, long may we remain a country (largely) without them

Yes, why can't people grasp this - the law says you can defend yourself, and your family, use lethal force, use a gun If you have a right to possess one if you feel threatened and in danger

What you can't do is chase someone down the road, when they are no longer a threat, and execute them.

(As much as we may want to)
