No, no, no. We can't have guns or means to protect ourselves against intruders. As that would just make us as bad as the criminals themselves. No, no, no. Most certainly not. We should invite them in, offer them tea and biscuits, perhaps fluff a pillow for them whilst they kneel down and empty our cabinets if valuables...

I trust everyone agrees that this father was within his rights?

Wow what a story, I think he would've been within his rights to do a lot worse.I'm sure he'll get karma when he's a prison, hopefully by a very big boy and his very big "weapon" OUCHY!!!

Nope I'd say what he was doing is completely undefencible and the dad was entirely right to do what he did. The fundamental difference here is that once the kid was unconscious on the floor the father walked away and phoned the police. That's the important bit, no chasing him down the road or crap like that (although thats a different thread).

Unfortunately criminals can travel to where ever they like so where one lives has no bearing on the subject, I have a very big dog that will take care of any would be intruders, but if they should happen to get by him then i'd say i'm well within my rights to defend myself and family by any means necessary using what ever happens to be lying about my house close to hand.

If someone forcibly enters my property and compromises the sanctity and safety of me and my family,s private space they will be met with extreme violence, end of. unless its the milkman or the postie of course actually scratch that, if my postie or milkman forcibly entered my property they would get it as well

I like how you've taken my comments out of context, well done.

My issue is with guns, long may we remain a country (largely) without them

What you can't do is chase someone down the road, when they are no longer a threat, and execute them.
(As much as we may want to)
