So does that mean if you forget to tax it and you go through a camera thing you'll be getting a fine??
My tax needs renewing 1st October so knowing my luck I'll probably get some bright spark pointing out I have no tax disc.

Presumably though you'll renew in the same way and either DVLA will or will not send you a tax disk (depending on the date). So can't you just put it into the car if they send you one?

So, I'm sure now the Government will be saving £65 million a year. They will be passing this saving onto the tax payer. I guess not.

I'm going to keep mine, but move it to a different corner of the windscreen.
Haven't decided which corner yet.

I feel a little naked now, and plus it's left the system wide open for abuse.

How's that

I wonder how many people have been prosecuted for "failing to display" in the last 5 years

And I wonder how many people are actually caught by the MK1 eyeball in the last few years

hardly any on both - the reality is that enforcement has been pretty much 100% computerised and mostly done by ANPR

The only way is false number plates, but people who resort to that are lost anyway

Previously if you seen a car parked in your little cul de sac for any length of time with no tax disk odds on it was dumped there, now with no cars displaying how can you do your neighbourhood watch and spot a dumped car. I think it's going to be a tall order for ANPR to catch every single one who is abusing the system.
Just my tuppence worth

Edited to add, the gypsies will take much advantage of this now I suspect.

sure - but the cul-de-sac example - the records are cross checked, the registered keeper will be sent a reminder and ultimately a fine

I know, I forgot to SORN my kit car one year - totally forgot, but I received a fine

you can never design a system to stop people who are absolutely intent on evading the "system" and Gypsies (without wishing to tarnish a whole section of society) are potentially an example, but then they evade the tax disc too

It'll be interesting waht the goverment have saved in teh cost cutting at the DVLA....scrapping discs has netted £10million.

They also closed all the offices leaving only Swansea. That must have saved a few £billion in wages and rent.
